and another thing....5 year old being scarred for life because she had to sit in the back of a car for a few minutes with some twist-ties on her little hands?
jeeesus....do you know how many 5 year olds grow up in a home of feuding parents about to get divorced? seeing they're mother get hit, or dad do drugs, or whatnot. and they aren't always scarred for life....
....this girl sat in a fucking car, calmed down, and then went home with mommy. i dont think this is going to be scarring her for life.....she probably gets pleanty of that at home.Comment

So Pussyman is your "real" nickname.
I'm not posting garbage, just trying to point out the fact that you think handcuffing a 5 year old is ok. I find it hard to believe you are a parent.
Then again you are from Ft lauderdale. That really does explain alot, as I lived in south florida for 5 years. How do you say redneck in spanish?Comment

I said I wasn't going to continue this conversation but I'm mom and get a bit pissed off over crap like this. Ignorant people like you are the reason I think IQ and psychological tests should be mandatory so people with below average and/or poor results aren't allowed to procreate.
1) Not parents
2) Don't work with children
3) Act like the solution to all problems with children is to beat them.
Pretend to have a solution or offer opinions that you have no basis of experience or knowledge.
corporal punishment has a time and place and obviously this wasn't one of them. What was needed in this case was to remove the child from others and place her in a room where she can't hurt herself or anyone else. THEN CALL THE PARENTS!
Now for my comments on the Jelly beans. Read this link.
http://www.keepwell.com/hyperactive.htm
I especially like this part....
"Group Three Fed a diet of sugared cereal, white bread products, jelly, Twinkies, soft drinks, milk shakes, canned fruit and water. They were nervous, skinny, had frenzied actions, discolorations on tails, chewed up their water bottle. Could not be held due to biting behavior. Their eyes were squinted. They were the smallest in size of the three groups. "
Now because of my experience having raised 2 children I know these things.
1. Between the ages of 4 - 8 is a magical time. The child grows the most and such things as food allergies, social disorders, behavour problems, etc can begin to manifest. (Why do these things suddenly appear at this period of time?..... I don't know maybe it has to do with the fact that prior to 4 they are too busy learning to not eat from a bottle, stop craping themself, figure out walking and talking)
2. You can not keep Jelly Beans out of the mouth of a child. If you bring them out, they are going to eat them. And I'm sure the teacher had every intention of letting the kids do exactly that. Otherwise it's pretty stupid to assume that when the counting exercise was over she would put them all back in a jar for the next time. I also don't care how much attention the teacher is paying, a 5 year old will find a way to sneak a jelly bean into her mouth.
3. A tempertantrum is not the end of the world and it does not sign the death sentence for child. What does is the adult's reaction to the situation. IE: The child can't control themself but the adults can. How you deal with this is going to determine how they view themself and how they interact with others.
My point in this.... When a 5 year old strikes out this severly you don't respond by doing the same. You try to figure out why so you can prevent it in the future. No liberal bleeding heart here... This is just common sense.
As for the teacher and other adults in the school being able to control the child. Well, she was all of 40 pounds and the last I check any adult could easily have picked this kid up. Then you take her to a room away from everyone else. I am certain... absolutely certain that there was at least 1 person strong enough to do that. (Unless you can tell me that the entire staff was handicapped, in wheel chairs and the kid had a loaded colt45.)
Even if she was kicking and throwing objects and yes, once in a while when you work with kids you take an object to the head, get hit, etc. What's next, do you call the cops lay assult charges because when changing an infants diaper it urinates in your face? (Anyone that has ever had a baby boy knows this happens)Comment

You're an idiot and you should just shut the fuck up while you're not ahead because if you have ever read any other posts I've made, you would know how AGAINST spanking/beating of any kind. I don't condone spankings/beatings and don't believe there is ever a reason for one human to ever physically harm another human being. If you read my posts in this thread, you would also see that I think it's ridiculous that they arrested that child. But we are NOT talking about a typical child having a tantrum here. We're talking about a VIOLENT outburst. There's a huge difference. I don't think arresting her was the solution, but I also don't know what the solution is and I never pretended to. As I said in my previous posts, that child needs help at HOME not from the school and/or authorities.
Your jelly bean crap is retarded. Just STFU. I don't like jelly beans, never have. I wouldn't have put them in my mouth if I wasn't supposed to when I was in grammar school. Don't underestimate the intellgence or perception of a child. I can't stand people who think kids don't understand anything. Children understand a LOT more than most adults think.
To reiterate, you're an idiot.Comment

She was NEVER ARRESTED, she was RESTRAINED INSIDE A POLICE VEHICLE.
NEVER arrested. The police car, WAS the ROOM where she couldnt hurt anything or herself, further.Comment

yea who in their right mind would want to restrain a kid that isn't in control. Maybe they should havbe just let the kid run around and hit a few more people.Originally posted by DonovanPhillipsI have a 5 year old. I'd seriously inflict physical harm on someone if this happened to him.In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

Exactly.Originally posted by IdealBandwidthShe was NEVER ARRESTED, she was RESTRAINED INSIDE A POLICE VEHICLE.

I love the suggestions to call social services, lol! At least in the Atlanta area, they might have shown up in a week or so. Then if the kid did the exact same thing with them, the police would have been called and charges filed. The kid WOULD have been in juvenille detention.
Anyone who says a spoiled brat 5 year old can't do some serious damage to themselves and others when the teachers are forbidden to physically disipline them has never spent time in a public school kindergarten.Comment
-
She also wasn't spanked/beaten, so I don't know what corporal punishment has to do with any of this.
The people who claim to be experts on raising children are usually the ones who have screaming kids in grocery stores, throwing tantrums when they don't get what they want. I grew up in the 80s, and I don't ever remember witnessing things like that while at the store with my parents or nanny. These days, you can't go to a store without seeing at least one out of control child acting like a spoiled brat. It's ridiculous. I'm not a parent, and I know parenting isn't easy... but it's also not rocket science. All these skrinks and "experts" keep overanalyzing something that's really not as complicated as society makes it these days.
I feel sorry for the child in this story. She's just another product of poor parenting. Children don't suddenly become like that one day. That's a practiced behavior.Last edited by Furious_Female; 03-19-2005, 06:51 PM.Comment

People are such politically correct pussies today.
My father would beat the shit out of us if we even looked at him crosseyed or were disrespectful to our mother. We wouldnt have had the balls to punch our teachers in the stomach.
My grandfather, in the old country, used to beat my father if is simply skipped church or school for a day, lol.
It worked, all of us turned out good, never been in trouble with the law. Respectful to authority, etc.Comment

Nice try.... But there is a big difference between using plastic ties and handcuffing the ankles and holding the child. If you can't see the difference then you never wil.Originally posted by brokeEven if that meant physically restraining and forcefully moving the child?
So from my previous three points its obvious you fit into the first two.Originally posted by Furious_FemaleWhile I think arresting a 5 year old is drastic, I can't really say I would know how to handle a violent child from a teacher's point of view. I'm not a teacher or a parent but that child has problems and if you think writing it off as a normal childhood tantrum is accurate, I hope you don't have kids now or ever.
1. Are not a parent
2. Do not work with children.
As for the third, ok you are against beating the child but without sufficient information to the cause of the outburst you use a catch all argument and dump everything on the parents door and lack of proper child-rearing. And this opinion is formed from someone that admits they have zero knowledge or experience with children. Amazing you can identify the source of the problem despite this.
I think you need to look in the mirror. Because again, you have no children or any real practical knowledge or experience with children and you act as if you do.Originally posted by Furious_FemaleDon't underestimate the intellgence or perception of a child. I can't stand people who think kids don't understand anything. Children understand a LOT more than most adults think.
To reiterate, you're an idiot.
And here lies the problems with your arguments. It's not about what you like or feel or think or how correct you are. In fact this isn't about you at all! This is about a 5 year old being treated like a adult criminal the lack of an educational facility to have competant staff and law enforcement being barbaric neaderthals.Originally posted by Furious_FemaleYour jelly bean crap is retarded. Just STFU. I don't like jelly beans, never have. I wouldn't have put them in my mouth if I wasn't supposed to when I was in grammar school.
The attitudes reflected here demonstrate why a situation like this can occur. Lord the United States declares wars on countries for child imprisonment and social injustices like this.Comment

Yep, just policy to avoid a lawsuit. The school had to call the police and every one had to follow procedure. Just think if the teacher grab the little 40 lb girl and restrain her and the five year old got a bruise? The parents would have a lawsuit. They were just doing there job.Originally posted by IdealBandwidthShe was NEVER ARRESTED, she was RESTRAINED INSIDE A POLICE VEHICLE.
