Several other countries have nukes. Its just that lately a lot of countries with questionable intent are wanting to have nuke capability (i.e. North Korea, Iran).
I, for one...am thankful the U.S. is taking a firm position against allowing either country to develop nuclear arms. I highly doubt these countries would use nukes as a deterrent - but rather a first-strike weapon.Comment

You're not very educated are you? First; There are plenty of countries allowed to have nukes, and nuclear programs. Second; It's not the U.S. that dictates who can have them and who can't. Thirdly; we gave North Korea millions for their nuclear program. And last but not least, it's North Korea breaking agreements they made which is causing the problem.

Nuclear proliferation is a bad thing. It is better other countries don't have any nuclear ability. Meanwhile, "we" who have more nuclear capability than almost all nations on the planet combined - have no interest in reducing our own facilities, but we like to whine about others.
Other factors include, we can't have some other nation infringing and messing with our monopoly of arms trading - that could cost us billions.
To quote a currently famous leader..
Can someone tell this leader that North Korea has already stated clearly that they no longer have any "agreements" - they relinquished them - and he was advised at the time, but obviously suffering from memory loss. The North Koreans have made agreements with us in the past, and we expect them to keep their agreements.
This is not the way you conduct business in the world. This is not the way that peaceful nations conduct their affairs.
Invading countries on the basis of false claims of having nuclear weaponary is also not the way "that peaceful nations conduct their affairs".XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

You see, back in the early 40?s America needed a way to stop Godzilla from invading us from Japan so we developed a way to stop him dead in his tracks. However, since we were just barely able to comprehend science (during this time we still used rocks to kill our enemies with and to break open coconuts), we made a mistake and accidentally dropped two atomic bombs directly over Japan while scouting for Godzilla. It was a horrible travesty that killed 200,000 people, but since most of them were Asian it didn?t count during the time (Asian people are still not considered people by 65% of the world). We don?t know where Godzilla has gone, but in time we may have to use our atomic weap-ons again. Maybe in Iran? I hear he?s been sighted close to there in recent months.

Folks, Id like to sing a song about the American Dream
About me, about you
About the way our American hearts beat way down in the bottom of our chests
About that special feeling we get in the cockles of our hearts
Maybe below the cockles,
Maybe in the sub cockle area,
Maybe in the liver, maybe in the kidneys,
Maybe even in the colon, we dont know
Im just a regular Joe, with a regular job
Im your average white, suburbanite slob
I like football and porno and books about war
I got an average house, with a nice hardwood floor
My wife and my job, my kids and my car
My feet on my table, and a Cuban cigar
But sometimes that just aint enough to keep a man like me interested
(oh no, no way, uh uh)
No I gotta go out and have fun at someone elses expense
(woah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah)
I drive really slow in the ultra fast lane
While people behind me are going insane
Im an asshole (hes an asshole)
Im an asshole (hes an asshole, such an asshole)
I use public toilets and I piss on the seat
I walk around in the summer time saying ?how about this heat??
Im an asshole (hes an asshole)
Im an asshole (hes the worlds biggest asshole)
Sometimes I park in handicapped spaces
While handicapped people make handicapped faces
Im an asshole (hes an asshole)
Im an asshole (hes a real fucking asshole)
Maybe I shouldnt be singing this song
Ranting and raving and carrying on
Maybe theyre right when they tell me Im wrong
Nah
Im an asshole (hes an asshole)
Im an asshole (hes the worlds biggest asshole)
You know what Im gonna do
Im gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado convertible
Hot pink, with whale skin hubcaps
And all leather cow interior
And make brown baby seal eyes for head lights (yeah)
And Im gonna drive in that baby at 115 miles per hour
Gettin? 1 mile per gallon,
Sucking down Quarter Pounder cheeseburgers from McDonalds
In the old fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers
And when Im done sucking down those greeseball burgers
Im gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag
And then Im gonna toss the styrofoam containers right out the side
And there aint a goddamn thing anybody can do about it
You know why, because weve got the bombs, thats why
2 words, nuclear fucking weapons, OK?
Russia, Germany, Romania, they can have all the democracy they want
They can have a big democracy cakewalk
Right through the middle of Tiananmen Square
and it wont make a lick of difference
Because weve got the bombs, OK?
John Wayne?s not dead, hes frozen, and as soon as we find a cure for cancer
Were gonna thaw out the duke and hes gonna be pretty pissed off
You know why,
Have you ever taken a cold shower, well multiply that by 15 million times
Thats how pissed off the dukes gonna be!
I?m gonna get the Duke, and John Cassavetes,
and Lee Marvin, and Sam Peckinpah, and a case of whiskey,
and drive down to Texas and say?..
(Hey! You know, you really are an asshole!)
Why don?t you just shut up and sing the song, pal?
Im an asshole (hes an asshole)
Im an asshole (hes the worlds biggest asshole)

In the case of North Korea it's pretty much senseless for them to have nukes. The biggest problem of North Korea is South Korea and they can't launch against South Korea - it's way too close. And if they did launch on South Korea, the US would nuke them back into the stone age.

Agree Rochard - all pointless and riddled with utter hypocracy from start to end.We urge the United States not to continue evading its own non-proliferation obligations under Article VI of the Non-Proliferation Treaty by retaining a massive arsenal of nuclear weapons.
We urge the U.S. Administration to re-commit to the goal of eliminating its nuclear arsenal, to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and to adopt a "no first use" policy with regard to the use of nuclear weapons.
Proposed development of new nuclear weapons by the U.S., moves toward a return to nuclear testing, and plans for a new nuclear weapons factory to
make plutonium ?pits? all threaten to further weaken the NPT.

North Korea pulled out of a NPT after the current President of the US decided to descibe them within a ripped off speech from Churchhill as being part of an "Axis of Evil".
The subtlety did not go amiss - other countries included in this "axis" are taking whatever action is in their best interests.

OK.. Let's cut the crap
It does not take a blind man to see why North Korea dumped their NPT. They were basically threatened by a nation who spends more money on military costs than any nation and took their own decisions.
Threatening nations is not a good idea - irrespective of how many nukes another may have. Threats simply fuck up the work of many people over years in getting an NPT implemented in the first place.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

Total Number of Countries who won Nuclear Weapons
Country--------------------Total Active/Complete Total
------------------------------------------------------
Russia..................................5,830..... ....16,000
United States.........................5,735.........9,960
United Kingdom ....................................<200
France............................................ .......350
People's Republic of China.........................130
India...................................75........ .......115
Pakistan..............................65.......... .......90
North Korea...........................0................. .7
As you can see the U.S. arent the only ones with Nuclear capabilities.
Russia ranks first in both categories and the US follows it up.
Now the US and RUSSIA aggreed some time ago to stop producing NEW Atomic Weapons.
But like in most situations around the world, when some lunatic gets a hair up his ass about creating NEW nuclear weapons just so they can get a higher profile in the global eye and flex some muscles, the US tends to get it's ire up and flex right back, only in the situtaion with Iraq we (the U.S.) had an asshole in the presidential seat.. now all of a sudden ALL american are evil and want to rule the world becasue one one jackass who will not be in office much longer in the grand scheme of things. Americans as a whole don't like what is happening in the world theater. Things are going to change. They have to.Last edited by giftedtwisted; 06-21-2006, 09:22 PM.Comment

Can someone make a list of countries that HAVE USED NUKES in the past? eg. on civillians etc.
Then we can get a better assessment on who actually used nukes for "evil" based on history
I mean we can all agree that only a lunatic would ever use nukes on innocent people right?
