When we were there 3 weeks ago everyone was sooooooooooooo nice. Everywhere we went the people were friendly and polite.

NYC had a bad rap up until the last several years. it really used to be tough and rude on the streets but most everyone has chilled since then. i love it nowadays

New Yorkers are more polite then LA people.
New Yorkers know directions around the city but in LA the bus drivers don't even know where the fuck anything is.

hmm, would you say the attitude changed there after 9/11?

just wondering what could cause an entire city that always had a much different reputation to change like that

It didn't change. I lived there in 1985-1990 and retuned in 1994.
TV gave the image of the rude New Yorker. They are busy and fast paced and to folks from slow assed hick towns, where the grocery clerk has time to discuss customers children, find the rush to be rude.
