you can declare whatever you want, penalties are a bitch though.

logic tells me your entitled to claim half of the mortage interest, your brothers standard deduction technically covers the other half

Do not claim rent for your office though it sends up a flag
to the iRS !

Declare 9 on your W4s. Especially if you're single. Always.

Or sign up to TurboTax or the like and use the program for free to figure out what you can and can't do. You only have to pay when you submit / print.
