    Someone Wants Me to Ship to Nigeria Re. and eBay Auction, Is This a Scam?

    cliff notes:
    They want to pay me by moneygram, send the item upon confirmation of receiving the funds by moneygram and send it TO NIGERIA!

    This is the entire e-mail I just got:

    "DEAR SELLER, AM HIGHLY INTRESTED IN BUYING THIS GREAT ITEMS FOR ONE OF MY CLIENT THAT JUST RELOCATED TO LAGOS NIGERIA ZIP CODE 23401 AS A BIRTH DAY GIFT. I WILL LIKE TO BUY THIS ITEM AS FAST AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE HER BIRTH DAY DATE IS VERY LIMITED I WANT THE ITEM SHIPPED DIRECTLY TO HER IN NIGERIA AND I WILL BE PAYING YOU WITH MONEY GRAM THROUGH A VERY SECURE ONLINE PAYMENTS BY MONEY GRAM KINDLY GET BACK TO ME WITH YOUR FULL NAME AND ADDRESS FOR PAYMENT I WANT THE ITEM SHIPPED VIA FEDEX EXPRESS SHIPPING TO LAGOS NIGERIA ZIP CODE 23401, I WILL BE WILLING TO KNOW THE TOTAL COST OF THE ITEM INCLUDING SHIPPING TO MY CLIENT IN NIGERIA LET ME HAVE YOUR FULL NAME AND ADDRESS. PLS NOTE THAT I WANT YOU TO SHIP OUT THE ITEM TO MY CLIENT UPON APPROVAL CONFIRMATION E-MAIL FROM MONEY GRAM. THAT YOUR PAYMENT HAS BEEN APPROVED AND RECEIVED BY THEM. HOPING TO HEAR FROM YOUR SOONEST BEST REGARDS."

    so what's this about, is this some sort of scam or what? I'm seriously not comfortable when a country like NIGERIA pops up

                                      Fake Nick I got no time nor do I feel like having beef with you. A relative died last night plus I'm having heaps of shit the last few weeks, if you want to go all out on me please go ahead if that makes you feel any better.

                                          The tip off that it's a scam, well other than the obvious in that Nigeria is scam central; I don't do business with folks there period, even if I knew they were legit - anyways, the tip off is PLS NOTE THAT I WANT YOU TO SHIP OUT THE ITEM TO MY CLIENT UPON APPROVAL CONFIRMATION E-MAIL FROM MONEY GRAM.

                                          In a nutshell, the scammer is asking you to ship product merely upon receipt of an email ...

                                          One common variation of the above scam is the scammer sends one a check/money order/certified check - many sellers don't understand that a check, even if cleared, isn't final for 10 business days; can be longer if check/money order/etc is from a foreign bank. In summery, many sellers get scammed when they deposit/cash the check, etc and then later learn, usually after they've already shipped the product, that it's bogus / stolen ... leaving the seller with no money and no product.

                                          Here's a simple rule that weeds out the bulk of scams ...

                                          Avoid transactions from much of Eastern Europe / Africa. Some folks here will bitch and say that's not fair and whatnot ... well, until those areas cleanup their act, it's better to just avoid them *unless* one is very savvy, has advanced fraud screening in place, and can afford to absorb some fraud.
