you can do just about anything... however, i suggest you get Ulead Gif Animator. quick program for gif animation. i just design in photoshop and add some images, etc in ulead and then create my gif in ulead itself.

I did Save as optimised and it just saved the image, but not animated

you're saving optimized with jpeg frames. make sure you're saving optimized as gif in the "optimize" tab/window.

Fireworks is much better for making animated .gifs in my opinion.
