The US has made great strides in the last 20 years with soccer. The kids play it at school and viewing figures are on the rise.
The problem for the International side is simple, look at the clubs their players play for, and the leagues, then look at the sides the others play for.
To compete on the world stage you have to play against world class players on a weekly basis.
Unless you play against players like Henry, Rosicky, Lampard, etc. You are going to look very naive when they face you. Which is what the US did look.
Boys against men, the test of the US character is whether they have the balls to keep the soccer experience going or whether this WC put the whole thing back 20 years again.
