The Internet in it's infancy was designed by the military to be an indestructible communications network: Cut off one head another grows in it's place. Outside of a really nasty, ultra-fast-spreading virus I don't see how shutting the *whole* thing down is even remotely feasible.

Besides, there are too many sub-networks, Internet 2, etc. Even if a big portion was shut down it would be back online in a few days/weeks.

Actually, kind of creepy isn't it? We've created an almost living, breathing organism we can't stop even if we wanted to!!!

It's probably the beginning of our own destruction. Intelligent robots will eventually make us their slaves.

I can only hope to be made into a sex slave for a hot robot.

yeah there some back up on other planets we recieve through wireless.

Any body want to buy secure data storage on the moon. A secure place for hosting.

A perfect environment to run a computer. we can just shoot a storage container full of servers to the moon.

you can buy acres on the moon real cheap.

Internet2 is awesome.... Canadians rock for coming up with that stuff.

Anyway, in theory, the internet can't be taken out with a single attack, or even multiple... it would take some pretty precise and knowledgable work to take it down entirely.

That being said... who here hasn't experienced major lags, websites that won't connect and very slow speeds anytime a major backbone has a router go down?

Take down a few of these: http://www.internetpulse.com and it might not be destroyed, but it would be practically unuseable.
