Man this is some good beer. I've never had a brown beer go down so smoothly and with NO aftertaste. It's incredible.....Smooth, fruity, and gives you a nice earthy buzz.

just as i thought, its not originally from there, one of holland biggest breweries rented a spot inside the domain, so theyre allowed to call it a monk beer, sucks cause thats all machine made beer, nothing to do with the monks

Have you ever visited La Trappe? It's still a monestary. Yes, they have modernised quite a bit, but it's still one.

But its true, there's pretty much none left in the Netherlands.
If you want to make a nice day out go to Belgium and visit the De Sint-Sixtusabdij van Westvleteren.

You can buy Westvleteren in the better beershops or biercafes. However, the abbey doesn't sell it's beer through a big distributor.

You can visit the abbey and get a tour. You can have a drink over there as well. But they don't use any big distributors for their beer(like Interbrew does). IF you see it, it means somebody went down there and bought the beer straight from the monks.

Yes, it's being exported around the world (drank it at Bieres et Compagnie in Montreal) but in the end it comes straight from the monks

The best beer is Extra from company Svyturys, (available in the US now)
I think everyone who luvs beer should check their local stores and try it. The taste is really good.
I found out that it came from Lithuania.

If you want some real good beer try to find a Grimbergen, Dekoninck, Westmalle, Affligem, Corsendonck or a Leffe. All top quality belgian beers!

nope never been to la trappe, but i drink it lots like many others, since im like 2 miles away from belgium, going there tonight as well, got the maredsous at delhaize closeby here...

thing is the whole idea is gone, its all big time breweries now, la trappe is part of bavaria, not interbrew but still pretty big, i like the idea of monks making beer and thats a big gone when i hear bavaria... same as the bottles they used till same bobo said they needed machine compliant bottles.. im glad belgiums dont do that shit and still use bottles theyve been using for ages, its sentiment i know but still...
