Ok guys lets straighten things out, I'm french canadian but I speak english perfectly and a little spanish. I live in Quebec but I dont consider myself Quebecois but CANADIAN so as more then half people here in quebec because separation never went through. And I dare people from Vancouver to say they are real canadians when more then half the people living there are asians. I dont call my hot dogs chien chaud and I dont hate the U.S, I spend a lot of time there all year long. And anyone from quebec who knows economics wouldnt hate the us. The problem here is that there are too many 25 yrs old and younger pot smokers who think they could govern the province when all they did in school is smoke weed and venerate socialism.Itsyourporn_Mich | ICQ: 295-217-701 | mich at itsyourporn dot com

Funny how a lot of Americans always say that when you lose, but when you win ONCE, you still talk about it 20 years later and make fucking Kurt Russell movies about it. I heard someone on ESPN say that the miracle on ice was "perhaps the greatest sporting event ever on US soil."Originally posted by KevshAny American reading that is scratching his head thinking "They beat us at hockey? At the Olympics? What did they do, ice over the swimming pool?"
Read: The US could care less about losing at to us at hockey ...
But, you don't care about Olympic hockey...
Talk about poor losers. If you as a country wanted to keep pretending that us handing you your ass all the time at hockey didn't bother anyone, you shouldn't have made such a big deal about the one time our guys fell asleep and your guys fluked out a victory. Doesn't help your argument that no one in your country cares about hockey.Comment

1. I agree with you on the superbowl; but Canadian censorship and government controlled networks are no better. We are both fucked.
2. Booze at 18, can?t argue there.....
3. Higher education is a privilege, imo, so if you want it pay for it. It?s in investment. However, our lower education system sucks and needs some major TLC.
4. Healthcare in Canada is lengthy, bureaucratic, and if you can afford better you go to the states.... don?t punish people because they are successful. Once again I think healthcare is a privilege not a right. Most effects on your health are caused by personal choices; smoking, diet, exercise or lack there of each. Why should society in general pay for the choices of an individual?
5. Malpractice suits suck; it?s why we call it a legal system not a justice system. We need to cap them.
5. "Privatization is shit" - I call BS on this. What?s your facts?
Henry Thoreau VS Karl Marx is what this all comes down to. The rights of an individual or the rights of a society. We all have our opinions, but they are nothing more than that; opinions.Comment

Healthcare in Canada, despite the waits, is still good. I passed out delirious after 45 minutes in a waitingroom from a spider bite. It was damn close but they eventually got to me.
They've essentially demonized smoking as a tactic to rid lung and cancer issues in the future. and don't take 'demonized' lightly, they're fucking HARSH
check stupid.ca
And I'm sorry, but most privitization is really bad news. Argentina is one glaring example, Equador, how about Iraq...just wait.
And look at what happened in California when they Privitized Hydro. Caused many problems and had to get power from BC for a while.
There are instances when Privitization is appropriate, but mostly it is detremental. You can't run a government like a business. They try and tell you it works, but in reality it fails more people than it assists.
and congratulations on your manhood btw. I'm sure it will take you places!

I disagree with the privatization but as I said, it?s an opinion, like yours. I see all government ran systems turn out like to provide poor service and quality. Our government school system sucks, but our private ones are good. Our Social Security system is a joke, but my private funds gain nice dividends. Any private business is more effect and the competition drives down cost and increases quality, in general. While the deregulation of power and phones was done poorly I think these are the exceptions rather than the rule. Bottom line, nobody knows who is right and who is wrong. I am sure we are both right and wrong in some aspects. It?s never the government that makes a country great, it?s the people. So we will agree to disagree.Comment

Privatized institutions rock, and the gov is slow and inneficient, I agree....the concern is for those who can't afford access to basic human necessities...
If I could (and can btw) afford private services, I would feel like shit using it while genuinly ill people can be denied treatment. Just my conscience I guess.
should a brilliant child in a poverty ridden situation be denied access to a decent
education?
got the ego thing...Comment
-
On the flip side of that, are you punishing the successful? Money will always buy opportunity; its easy to make money when you already have money. I agree with the fact that education is a right, never claimed anything else. However, there are ways to promote both quality and efficiency without denying people these rights. For example: Each child is given X amount of money, from the government, for their education annually. They can take this money to which ever school they wish. This way schools fight to get the students, so they get the funding, thus increasing the quality without denying anybody access to it. I think there is a nice median to these problems.Originally posted by Iconcool

I think that's a huge fundamental difference between Canadians and Americans. Nearly everyone in Canada thinks of health care as a basic human right. We think poor people shouldn't be denied treatment, and middle class people shouldn't lose everything because they get sick.Originally posted by power182Once again I think healthcare is a privilege not a right.

yup - but right now everything seems to be about extremes. (ie. I need the biggest effin vehicle, food. body type *beefcake* etc...) I think the divide between classes has expanded to an 'imperial' level where certain classes no longer exist. It isn't fair to punish the successful though, I agree - hard work and intelligence should guarantee certain priviliges. Unfortunately, it is the wealthy(re: powerful) who can begin to implement change. They ain't doing nuthin.
Healthcare is a right, as a citizen, isn't it in a Country's best interests to keep it's citizens healthy and productive?
inre: education, I think a lot of $$ should be pumped into the education system. there are many problems, ranging from the shootings(the ignorant bully effect) to decrepid facilities, effed up sport programs, and burnt out teachers. (people don't realize that teachers work 60 to 80 hour weeks during the school year. thats why they get the summers off. )
Just a thought, India made post secondary education virtually unaffordable to general society, creating a massive labour class and a tiny, wealthy educated class. Does wonders for the economy.Last edited by Icon; 03-10-2005, 02:09 PM.Comment

Let me explain my stance. As I said before, there are many factors that determine ones health, many of which are in control of the individual. If one chooses to smoke, drink, eat poorly, drive recklessly, use drugs, etc; why should society as a whole be burdened by the choices of an individual? There are cases that are out of ones control that may lead to illness, such as genetics, but really think about it; you all are currently paying for health care (through taxes), so why shouldn?t somebody be given the right to choose what kind of health care they desire or if their money would be better spent else where. I am a firm believer in individual rights (if you couldn?t tell); we don?t need the government protecting people from themselves, just protecting them from each other.Comment

People are always reluctant to change, especially when they are on the benefiting side. Change comes from the masses, not from the elite; they are just forced to change by mass pressure. I still disagree that health care is a right, giving somebody something doesn?t solve much. However, making them earn and pay for it makes them value and cherish it. Health care in the states is not government controlled yet most our citizens are well taken care of. So it does work. Now if we would stop eating all the damn fast food and exercise maybe my heath care would go down (motivation caused by paying for it)!
It will be a short lived economy in India if they don?t equal things out. It will lead to civil unrest which could easily lead to violence.Comment
