Why must hold music be so shitty

I mean, elevator music is good, I like Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, but why must this hold music be so fucking horrendous?

Want to see what I am talking about, call (808) 625-8100.

That's what someone else told me too, I find it more comical than scary.

It's psy-ops. They hope that if the hold music is bad enough, you'll give up and call later or not at all.

I worked at a place where the hold music was a cassette deck that tied into our phone lines that the admin had at her desk.

Few weeks after the admin was let go in a downsizing move there was no one to "watch" the tapes that went in.

I replaced the muzak with a nice live slayer tape. Totally blew the minds of the folks that called in getting a nice blast of "war ensemble" in their ears. That was followed by a jerky boys tape that REALLY confused people calling in with all the prank calls.

Coworkers dimed me out to management cause their wives got upset calling in for them with my crazed selections and the fact that I'd switch tapes out. You'd never know what you were going to get that day........
