      Depends what you want...but anyway a Athlon 64 3500+ along with 1GB of decent ram & a nforce4 mobo w\ a pci-e card will do wonders :D

You are kidding, right? By the time a product hits the market place it is already on its way to being obsolete.

well, thats technology for ya... but anyway. im not a big gamer. just looking for something that isn't a huge space hog... and runs @ a decent speed with a good sized hard drive. obviously, the processor is important... the monitor picture is also important for obvious viewing purposes

              Well.. almost true.

I just invested a few years back on a new topnotch computer and it's still banging today. Just get enough ram and you should be cooking for a long time, I personally got 2gigs and it's sufficient to do anything I want.

However I don't play games, I assume you need the latest videocards and stuff for that.
              ..and I'm off.

                      stay under a grand?!

your not gonna do that and get anything of serious quality, a good video card is $300, another $200-300 for a gig of ram. Your budget is gone half gone and you've not even touched the rest of the components.

thats totally not what the subject of this topic suggests....

should have known, when u said "wal-mart" doesnt carry anything special... what your asking for isnt anything special, might as well get that setup u see at wal-mart for like 399.99

Who the hell buys computers at walmart? lol

I was messing around with dells options cart, and my order came up to $5,500.00
I plan on waiting until 06 to make that order, it will probably drop a grand or so.

Pimping must not be paying too good anymore

IMO you wond find anything "unreplaceable" in that range.

If you play games get a DELL XPS or Alienware 3.6ghz laptop with 800 FSB, 2 gig ram, 60 gig 7200 rpm HD. 256meg graphics card.

I have a DELL XPS and its faster than any desktop you've probalby ever seen. Its not a laptop its LAN gamer but super fast for video processing, games, anything you want.

I was thinking about Dell, need to check them out more thoroughly.

What are your thoughts of Gateway? Their packages are a bit overpriced (for what you get, imo), but what do you all think of Gateway... ?
