I was thinking about that last night while I was watching this issue about some firm from India purchasing Tyco. there is some concern about the corporation, who is partially owned by the Government of India (I think, may be Pakistan) taking control of such a large US Organization.
Got me thinking to Michigan who was ready to stop accepting waste from Ontario. They made a big fuss about accepting trash from Canada, then we offered more $$$ and the issue vanished. I think Michigan was making a valid claim....
I don't think Americans are 'nuts' per se, but unbridled and unchecked greed can lead to some really bizarre situations.Comment

- Far more trash goes to michigan from other states than from Canada
- Our trash is far cleaner than the trash from those other states, with hazardous materials and many recyclables filtered out of the fill
- Canada in return accepts highly hazardous biochemical and nuclear waste to be buried in deepass holes drilled into the shield.
Kerry was trying to make hay while the sun shone, using us as the target of a touchy subject for michiganders while being careful not to piss off the other neighboring states which contribute far more to the problem. Politics and campaigning at its finest.~

there is something to this hypothesis, but not for the exact reasons the author suggests.
if you are well-traveled you know that america is a different place, and american culture is very success oriented.
and here is a plausible explanation:
america is a young country, only about 230 years old.
and who are the people that make up "america"? well, except for the native indians, they are people that had the balls to get on a ship and leave their native lands, and risk their life to try something new.
and these people had children.
so the genetic pool of america is vastly different from older cultures and nation states.
risk takers, yes. and the decendants of risk takers. and not just WASPs, all races and culture who came to america as immigrants.
contrast these immigrants with slaves who came to america unwillingingly. different genetics, they were mostly fuckups in west africa, and in america 175 years later, they are still mostly fuckups.
of course in a few hundred years things will be more homogenized, but you guys can talk trash all you want. yankee ingenuity put a man on the moon, invented large scale commercial air travel, the skyscraper, and a million other things that the world depends on.
and yankee ingenuity will find dear old osama, and put him out of his misery also.Comment
