Jennifer Lopez enrages animal campaigners for wearing fur
Jennifer Lopez is under fire from animal rights campaigners for deciding to wear fur and use it in her new fashion range.
The pop babe is being targeted by animal rights group PETA after being photographed wearing fur coats on a string of occasions and incorporating the controversial pelts in her new clothing range, Sweetface.
In a message posted on the PETA website, charity Vice President Dan Matthews said: "The protest comes on the heels of the debut of Lopez's fur-laden Sweetface fashion collection, which has been panned by critics and animal rights activists alike.
"There is nothing remotely 'sweet' about the torture deaths of animals killed for fur."
Protesters launched their attack on the sexy star by staging a vocal protest outside Virgin Records in New York where the singer was making a personal appearance signing copies of her new album, 'Rebirth'. Hundreds of activists congregated outside the Times Square store to hand out copies of a controversial DVD featuring the star alongside shocking footage of animals being skinned alive while holding banners bearing the slogan "Jennifer Lopez: Fur Scum."
Campaign leader Matthews added: "Jennifer Lopez may be able to get the images of bloody, skinned foxes still alive and breathing out of her head, but we doubt that all of her fans will."
The 32-year-old star, who is believed to be pregnant with her first child, is the latest in a long line of stars to be targeted by the animal rights group over her fur wearing.
Supermodel Cindy Crawford was criticised last year after she signed up as the face of American fur company Blackglama, just 10 years after posing naked for the animal rights group.
Meanwhile, Mick Jagger's model daughter, Elizabeth, was last month slammed by the group for her decision to wear a fox pelt for a fashion show.
