Around where I live, Walmart used to be really new looking and in good neighborhoods while Target used to be in the middle of nowhere. This was about 5-10 years ago.
Now, it seems like Target is building a new store every block and every store looks really clean. Walmart, on the other hand, are all old looking now and not as clean as it used to.
By the way, this was a pretty weird topic for a adult webmaster board but I answered frankly. ;)
For a lot of things Target, because there's one less than a mile from my apartment.
The nearest Walmart is about three miles away, and there's a Sam's Club (same owners and products) right next door. So since I already have the Sam's Club card I go there for things that are cheap, or in bulk quantity.

Don't like Walmart business practices. Imminent domain issues, low pay, slow to come up with benefits. Hurting balance of trade and micro manges suppliers.

Never heard of Sam's Club?
Anywho, I prefer Super Wal~Mart but go to Target for clothes and some of the common house decor items (soap dispensers, towel racks, etc) as Target has better quality items generally.
In recent history cash donations through Wal Mart exceeded a record $170 million dollars. According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, this makes Wal-Mart the largest giver in the country. Wal Mart holds a deep commitment to education and children. We provided $6 million in support of 5,000 literacy programs in 2004 and referred over 21,000 callers to services through our literacy hotline. Since launching our national ?Words Are Your Wheels? literacy initiative three years ago, we have donated more than $16 million to literacy programs and served more than 40,000 individuals through our national literacy helpline....
walmart has a better selection and is cheaper but they're too far away. I've got a target right across the street so for the little things thats where I go...
btw KMART sucks everytime I go there I wait in line atleast 30 mins.
