This ranking is based on geography. The USA is noted high there because they play a lot of matches against Mexico, Canada and a lot of small islands in the surrounding in order to qualify.
If they were playing in the South American qualification or the European qualification they would be a lot lower on the list.
The Americans have improved a lot in the last 20 years but they still lack tactics. The only tactic they can play is the old English "Kick and Rush".
I dont see them getting a real top 10 spot within the coming 20 years yet. They need to hire a lot of foreign coaches first to work with the youth.
