Ahh... excellent. My brother in law is going to be moving into his new house soon and I was wondering what I should get as a housewarming gift. This'll fit the bill nicely.
i bought a nice higher-end Sony Vaio 6 months ago for $1300 (usd) at BestBuy and we broke it last month... piece of crap - totally melted the motherboard on it
this time i went custom with water-cooled system, etc... for $1900
so it makes me wonder who can use a PC for $300, when one that cost me a grand more is garbage?

The person I'm buying it for is a Mac user. He just wants to play some of the PC games he sees from time-to-time, and a 2.4ghz celeron will play most anything you throw at it with reasonable speed except possibly some of the latest high-end 3d stuff. It'd certainly be more than enough for any sort of work-related task, which is part of the reason why there's a slow down in asset purchases from the big corps lately: those 1Ghz machines still work just fine. Why bother upgrading?
Plus, at $300, it virtually becomes discardable. Use it for a couple years, bequeath it to a school or a friend or whatever, and buy a new $300 computer if you need to keep up with the latest for gaming or whatnot.

No way is that computer going to play ANY games other than pre-2000 stuff. The video card on it is terrible. It's a good investment if you have people working for you in the office though, or don't plan to use the computer for much other than simpler office things

it probably cant even play doom
Haha, a buddy of mine bought one a while back and thought it was gonna be like a pimp gaming rig. Doom at minimum detail settings was running at like 4 fps
its perfect for small program apps and surfing. As someone mention, this can be wrote off when you junk it since its so cheap. And its better than buying custom (at this price) since the majority of customize desktops have crappy materials and only manufacturers warranty. Custom is the way to go when you need high end processin etc etc.
it ends thrusday nite btw. so here is a friendly bump for those who can use an additional computer in their office
if you need more than 3 clicks to get to a join page, something is wrong ;)
