It never ceases to amaze me that some people in our industry are homophobic... I am always so shocked to learn that.. I dont know why..
Anyways the scary thing about Phelps is that he teaches his children, who in turn teach their children Hate and Bigotry and it becomes like a circle... So sad that in this day and age we can't just let people live....
Wow they're fucked up down there.
This Fred Phelps family goes around saying Thank God for 9/11 and Thank God for the Tsunami http://www.cnn.com/2005/ALLPOLITICS/....ap/index.html
and they still get 47% of the vote.
That girl is studying to be a nurse, and she goes around saying thank God people get killed in disasters and that theyre going to hell? insane.
"A lot of people don't outwardly agree with what Phelps is doing, but behind the scenes they do," says Republican state representative Lana Gordon.
A state rep saying that? Ill stay in my liberal blue state, thx.

Amazing. An effort under way to help find a kidnapped girl, a chance to do something, and this thread has more movement. Is running our mouths important enough to spend all of our time doing it?
Well, there is a tie-in between Jessica and this thread, albeit a loose one. Ron Thornburgh, the Kansas Sec. of State, was my classmate in grades 4-9. I'll get ahold of him and see if he can get the flyer posted in high profile businesses in that state.
Whilst I applaud the efforts to help a child I don't see why people shouldn't ALSO be talking about their human rights. Some of us are those type of humans that they were attempting to remove them from.

"Running our mouths" is probably our most important freedom and serves everyone quite well because if we become silent on any issue..the issue dies and thus, so do we basically.
You're doing what you think is important as are others. Consider that there are MANY problems out there right now that need our attention.

Yep, its necessary to pick and choose battles. We all know the girl was kidnapped. We all agree its tragic. There is almost nothing we can do about it aside from reggging a domain with her full name, hosting it, and taking paypal donations.
This social issue on the other hand has infinitely more potential global consequences. Trying to make discrimination legal against a group of people is wrong. They aren't NAMBLA, they don't commit any crime nor harm any people. They don't deserve to have other's ignorance ruin their lives. Limiting freedoms is not something I care to take lightly regardless of which group is targeted.
do the people in churches like that ever READ the bible? seems like between the old and new testament, it tells pretty plainly not to judge, not to force, and not to hate.
do these so-called christians ever - just once - follow any of the teachings of the man they say is their god?
When Fred Phelps dies I am going to picket his funeral and then piss on his grave.
Better yet, let's erect a large gay religious statue in the cemetary and claim it's our right. When anyone in the city objects we just buy a plot of land there and erect it anyway
Somehow, for some reason, "Judge not lest ye be judged." has almost universally never been followed.
Not to turn this into a religious debate but that is one of the most misinterpreted scriptures. It actually says to not judge like a hipocrite. It's followed by the bit about not pointing out the speck in someone else's eye while not noticing the plank in your own.

Either way, I'm sure he isn't plank-less. BTK was the head of his church.
Oh it would be pretty easy to prove just how plank-less Phelps and co. are
BTW their "church" consists primarily of family and in-laws. If you ever see them in person you can get a big rise out of them by bringing that up. Also, if you'll notice, the chapters/verses at the bottom of their signs if looked up usually have little or nothing to do with the sign. I followed them around to several protests around here and frustrated the hell (pun intended) out of them by throwing bible verses back. Most of them only have about a half-dozen or so that they overuse so it doesn't take much to frustrate them

But if it's all you do, whether the issue dies or not becomes moot.

It is not a matter of "ALSO", it is a matter of ONLY.

WTF are you talking about?????
Who is spending ALL of their time running their mouths??
In case you haven't noticed, this is a message board with thousands of different threads about numerous topics by people with a variety of opinions.
Don't try to make it sound pointless. Of course people DO follow up their speech with action.
I'm not trying to make it sound pointless. The point I am making is that people are NOT following up their speech with action vis-a-vis the missing girl.
I fully agree that people should speak out on issues that concern them. But the action I am seeing on the Jessica issue is not that great. People seem more concerned with insulting a fundamentalist preacher online than they are with sending a few faxes to help find a missing girl.
Is there any part of this you don't understand? Do you need instructions? IMHO, your needing to have my viewpoint here actually explained to you indicates that you are the sufferer of tunnel vision. If you need, I can actually draw you a picture.
