Why didn't he just buy a knife or something? What is the purpose for being so "hands on" and physical? One stab with a knife could kill, while beating someone with a rock or a tire iron could take many blows and might not even kill the victim. What is with that? Why do you think he chose to do that?

Saw something about this on MSNBC last night in fact. While there have been lots of serial killers who used conventional weapons to do their deeds (Son Of Sam, for example, used a gun), most prefer to use their hands or a knife simply because it's just more personal, and the victim takes longer to die, which gives many of them a sexual thrill. It's like a power trip to kill someone with your bare hands, or at close range with a knife or club or whatever.
