Do I have the wrong hotel? There's nobody at the Diplomat

I thought last year was bad. Attendance has to be down at least 50% from last year's show. Very scary to see. There are more security than attendees.

Am I at the right hotel?

Look, are there people around but kind of pale-greenish skin color, kind of rotting and shuffling about slowly saying things like "more brains..."

You may be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

people can talk about the economy, social networking and online gaming but the truth is that this industry was gutted by our fellow webmasters and nobody did a thing about it - i'm sure AVN takes Brazzers money happily as do all the cockholsters who do business with them.

idiots who believe Brazzers was sold - heard they picked up Spankwire now.

there is no competing with 'FREE'.

Look at the bright side of it...you kinda insinuated in some threads in the past that you never really liked the crowded noisy shows and so you didn't go to many. Now you can relax with a nice peaceful couple of days at the beach there in Ft. Lauderdale.

Shap, 1500 people are in the hotel. Mostly toy vendors, and very few Internet related in my opinion.

The highlight for me is the guy selling the TiT ice sculpture molds. I have to have one. You pour liquor on the top and you suck on the nipples. A must have for every tit fanactic.

Shap, mail me at theo @ avn.com to arrange a meeting. We can go through on who attends the event and you'll see this is by far the largest event in the industry including Internet decision. We'll post an updated list of ppl with the end of it.

Wow. Glad I did not go then.

I normally hit this show every year, but been so busy with things recently simply could not justify being gone for 4 days considering all the stuff that needs to be done. I will simply enjoy an extra week of vacation in a month or so.

I thought Vegas was bad this past Jan. Florida show was slow last year. I can only imagine how slow this year from the people I am hearing the report from. Vegas next year show be even more eye opening.

Sounds like 2011 will be some show consolidation, or elimination.

Shap I feel your pain...

This show blows. I was really expecting a little improvement over the past couple but this really sucks. I feel sorry for the exhibitors I spoke to. Thank God I attended for vacation instead of business. Great Adult Shows R.I.P.

you guys all laughed when myself and others told you tubes and cross selling was killing the industry..

"oh noes the sky is falling" a lot of you said...

the sky did fall...

and yes, the economy is also playing a large roll, but FREE has destroyed this industry and you have no one but yourselfs to blame for allowing it to happen...

i would be crying right now if i hadnt switched to mainstream years ago....

Shaaaaaap!!!!! I'm going to look for you later, have some possible biz to discuss with you. Yes, the show is a major disappointment, more vendors for novelty toys than anything. Image if they didn't merge the shows together? Hardly any web companies here.

As I said a few days ago, I already heard from an inside source that this is probably the last AVN summer show. Pre-reg was at an all time low.

If you think about it...all those toy companies and novelty companies could be the next bunch to sell that traffic to. They've pretty much played out everything else. And those toy companies could use some mass traffic.

Here are some lovely examples of why this industry sucks:

This sentence, or attempt at a sentence, is very poorly written--what, exactly, does this mean?

Anyone want to take a stab at parsing that?

Maybe I'm being too harsh, but on the other hand isn't this just another example of "sic transit gloria mundi"?

In all seriousness, same here, not as many people but all it takes is 1 deal and it was worth it, or meeting a couple people you do biz with that you have never seen before.

I met both of my gateway providers, made 2 deals for more sales, met about a dozen people in the biz I didn't know ever existed and met a guy who gave me a one on one lesson about shooting at the craps tables. That was all in 8 hours on my first day.

Can't wait to see what tommorow brings.

If you just look at shows to see how many, how big and lavish the parties are, yes, this is the wrong show for you.

If that is your biggest problem with the industry, life must be really good for Marco. Congratulations, I'm glad you're doing well.

The size of Westin is tremendous, just the great hall and the 2nd floor where the meeting rooms are adds up to 70,000 sq feet. This is a hotel with around 1000 rooms and with a pool larger than the size of the main meeting areas of other places. You can have a peak look of Westin at: http://www.diplomatresort.com/ - If you want to define the success of an event by the density of people by square feet that's something different to discuss.

The number of events taking place simultaneously is larger than ever. AVN Show was designed to provide options to attendees based on their interest. For example, between 2:00pm and 3:00pm tomorrow the following activities will take place:

Exhibit Hall
Cabanas
3rd Floor Suites & Meeting rooms
Novelty Demo Lab
Novelty Exhibit Hall
Ripped Off! Imitation Is the Sincerest Form of Thievery - Room 213
Utherverse Builds a Virtual World in Real-time: An Exlusive Demo - Atlantic 3
Life in the Third Dimension: How to Produce 3D Content - Regency 3
Hot Sectors: The Ascendancy of Live Content and Dating - Atlantic 2
To Sell or Not to Sell: How to Maximize Your Value - Part 2 - Regency 1

You can see the schedule at http://www.avnshow.com/schedule-of-a...stry-show.html or download a complete version here: http://www.avnshow.com/_docs/AVNShow_Full_Details.pdf

Our industry is constantly changing. I don't believe it is realistic to expect the Internet segment of any event to be anywhere near the size of 2000-2005. I have a feeling Shap has left with such images in his mind. Someone recently wrote that used to have something like a thousand icq contacts and that the vast majority of them have disappeared for a while. Unfortunately, we like it or not this is a fact.

Video segment is harming as well and big time. Phil Harvey delivered a beautiful keynote today at the beginning of which he shared some of the Adam&Eve corporate statistics. Like every other company they experiences a steady decline in dvd sales. The difference with most of his competition is they successful make up for those loses through increases from other segments and mainly from sex toys.

Nobody drove in a pimped out 18 wheeler with naked babes painted on the side, a DJ spinning on the top and hot go go dancers making it rain 50s and 100s on the wealthy webmasters below? Damn, times have changed in 10 years

Okay, let me get this right...

The Diplomat is sold out. The show is massive. More attendees than ever before. Is that about right?

Free ID offer from AVE didn’t ring the bell? If I was living in Miami I would sign every one of my friends for this bash.

idiots who believe Brazzers was sold - heard they picked up Spankwire now.

there is no competing with 'FREE'.
I think this post more than any other shows the state of the industry.

Tubes don't make money from free traffic. They make money from people spending money. If this statement were right here would be no free to compete with.

The reason the industry is in trouble is that for $30 a month we can't compete with people these people you say living off "free" traffic. The reasons are simple we put the customer last, we ripped him off, he's rejecting us (for more reasons than cross sales) and we have not adapted to the new Adult Internet.

Until we do business will continue to decline.

Everyone is doing good biz. Great ROI. You missed out.

(if you're selling novelties)

After going to the last six Internext Miami shows in a row and watching AVN slowly kill this show and then either try to deny or justify it is getting kind of sad.
Last years show sucked, AVN could have tried to fix it, offer a rebate for people who put up with it last year but instead it was bizz as usual.
Lets face it if it was not for the terrible economy in Miami the Westin would not have even had you back this year.
I assume this will be the last, oh wait I mean greatest Internext ever.
