Im looking for a high speed camera 1200fps+
any recommendations
i have been looking at the casio ex-f1 but at 1200fps the resolution is shit, i want something to mess around with not something supper professional

I don't know what your budget is, these cameras can get pretty expensive. When you said high speed this is the first thing that came into mind.

I don't really know about any cheaper ones. There are online places that rent them out.

Another options is to use the twixtor plugin with after effects. This can achieve a really nice slow effect but can at ties cause some distortion at times.

If you don't want to buy the twixtor plugin you can use the time remapping plugin that comes with after effects. It is more of a pain I think though. I only use A.E., so I don't know what other programs have to offer.

thanks for the great links i had a look at the price of some of them cameras they are 100k plus. i read about twixtor and looks like a good plugin only thing is i only have a d90 which i dont think good enough for the high speed im looking for although the 7d link you posted at 1000fps looks amazing

I can use twixtor and time remapping but I don't even have a camera anymore so I never get to play with it lol.
I just wanted to show ya another cool example of twixtor and a gopro cam.

if i have read correctly to get the water affects like splashing you need 5000fps like the ones on mythbusters which i think are fairly expensive

I apologize for not responding to you earlier. I think we were commenting around the same time because I didn't catch many of your posts last night.

I work in mainstream design. I am trying to do affiliate stuff but I am not that good at it. That being said, I do not have any adult clients or adult video work.

I have always been limited by what I could afford, which isn't much. That being said, most of the stuff I have done for people or experimented with were more abstract since I have never owned a video camera.

Here is a example (not made by me) of a plugin I use called particular, with a little bit of twixtor or time remapping in it.



See how they change between speeding things up and then slowing things down?
I think you could make some cool porn clips using a similar technique, maybe for rougher stuff like the harder core bj stuff where they are like facefucking the chicks. Anything with that kind of mood would maybe work well.

Maybe like speeding up part of a fuck scene then slowing down to a part where hes going in her and shes like eyes/mouth wide open in pleasure.

What I se in my head sounds better than whats coming out of my mouth lol.

As far as the distortions I mentioned earlier with twixtor (I think that may be a worry of yours), check out this video if you have a moment.

You can see when the girl is by herself its fine but when they add the small papers around her things start fucking up. It all depends on the speed you are filming, what is in the scene itself, and how much you are trying to slow it down. Like you said, since its interpolation, if you try to stretch a clip out 300% it doesn't have much to work with giving you that distorted look.

These guys actually used the distortion to make an effect in itself:

3:00 in for the money shot.

If you just want to do this for a few ads though it may not be worth the investment.

It works sometimes but basically what it does is either duplicates each frame twice to stall it or make a frame inbetween 1 and 2 thats basically both frames blended together mixed with opacity, kinda like in photoshop overlapping one image with another then making if 50% transparent.

Those high speed cameras spit out a shitload of data and you have frames and frames to work with, thats why a lot of the bigger productions like music vvideos/movies etc will use them in lou of the software.

Google seems to think it was done on a 400fps 16mm film camera.
Someone somewhere mentioned an arri camera but I can't say for sure .

The plugin may be easier to use but if you want to play you could try fooling around with time remapping.

This is where you can find it. It is greyed out because I don't have any footage in my time-line, just a quick screenie since I didn't find it as a plugin. Technically you should be able to achieve a similar effect using both tools. I think twixtor has some more functions and may be easier to use but the other option is free so that's up to you.



If you are new to AE, check out videocopilot.com.
They have awesome tutes in generalbut you can prob find something on time remapping or twixtor there. You can find twixtor tutes on youtube for sure but prob lower quality.

Since you were unsure about your cameras settings with twixtor i would get the 30 day trial download and see how it goes.
