Subway removes ham and bacon from nearly 200 stores and offers halal meat only after 'strong demand' from Muslims

Almost 200 branches of Subway have cut ham and bacon from their menus, serving halal meat in response to calls from their Muslim customers.
The sandwich chain said 'following a strong demand from our Muslim customers', 185 outlets in the UK and Ireland have introduced the meat, which is prepared under strict Islamic rules.
In Arabic the word halal means 'permitted' or 'lawful' and defines anything that is allowed or lawful according to the Qur'an.
It is often used to indicate food - particularly meat - has been prepared in accordance with Muslim principles and techniques.

I can understand them adding the halal meat due to customer demand (though I disagree with the whole concept of killing animals that way), but removing ham and bacon seems completely unnecessary. Muslims don't even eat pigmeat, so what does it matter if it's on the menu? It's not like the meats are kept in the same container, Subway keeps it all separate as far as I'm aware.

The food must come from a supplier that uses halal practices. Specifically, the slaughter must be performed by a Muslim, who must precede the slaughter by invoking the name of Allah, most commonly by saying "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") and then three times "Allahu akbar" (God is the greatest). Then, the animal must be slaughtered with a sharp knife by cutting the throat, windpipe and the blood vessels in the neck (while the animal is conscious), causing the animal?s death without cutting the spinal cord. Lastly, the blood from the veins must be drained.

But yeah, i think in general they should lose a lot of customers. Something which is meant to be illegal in the UK, is now being served to us instead of what we normal would order. It's not even like they are leaving the option open, they have simply taken it off the menu...

You have never worked in restaurants where cross contamination is a reality.

I have kosher friends with 2 dishwashers. they would never eat in a non kosher place let alone one with pork.

Trust me, they are doing it for the economics. If they were losing more money by dropping bacon than they could gain, they wouldn't be making this move.

I don't see any problem! If you have a business in an ethnic area, odds are you are going try to bring those people into your place in order to increase your bottom line.
I'm sure every animal butchered here in the USA was treated fairly, humanely, and felt no pain when killed!
Shame on you for going to Subway in the first place, they suck! Make your own subs at home if you have no other choices!

100% of halal and kosher animals suffer during death. This is very evident from the videos.

The regular slaughter methods appear to stun nearly all of the animals for the duration of the slaughter process.
