          i was sticking with 5.2 for the only reason because i ran a couple scripts that were zend encoded, and they had to be re-encoded for 5.3, and the authors never got around to doing it.

            yeah, zend is a *real* pain with 5.3. Zend optimizer doesn't work, but zend guard does and like you say, it needs re-encoding to go with that. There must be a very good reason Zend are not releasing ZO for 5.3 because it is a problem and they are losing lots of people to ioncube because of it - well, I know of 2, me being one of them, so that's lots ;)
