Let's talk traffic..

I've recently been using some different methods for getting traffic these days to new blogs. Some of which are:

Submitting to good blog directories

posting to twitter

posting to reddit

posting to stumbleupon

swapping links using linkspun and friends

swapping blog posts as well with individuals.

Any other ideas or thoughts that you have tried out which are successful these days? I didn't mention buying traffic because I really don't buy that much to be honest.

Feel free to share your ideas as well.

I have yet to try the pinterest stuff. Not sure how effective it is. I would like to find some more forums to post to as well to drive traffic but haven't been able to do so.

You always ask a lot of questions in a lot of threads, which is great. I've learned from the responses you get. But, how about sharing some of your results with the GFY community? For instance, what have the traffic methods you mentioned above produced for you, which was best, what did you use for promotion, etc.?

I hope I don't come off as a dick. I just think it would be a nice thing for you to do since everyone has been kind enough to help you.

I guess it depends on how you post them. Post it in social networking sites in an interesting and engaging manner where it can arouse curiosity so that readers will go to your site.

Your aren't coming off as a dick. I will gladly share in this thread. I've actually even shared screenshots of things for proof in past.

So back to the topic at hand:
What's worked for me? Well, I'd have to say posting via twitter has definitely helped a bit, definitely enough to get a couple joins in the past and traffic but nothing major. The key to this one is some sort of automation I think which I've yet to really dive into.

The blog directories submission have helped get into search engines and boost initial traffic. Page rank has been noticed to increase but corrects itself once falling off page 1 of twans directories. I'm definitely great ful for his listings but occasionally his script drops some links for some reason. I haven't messed with many other directories yet.

The stumbleupon worked well before their interface change. I don't get views on every submission anymore. Some I get none.

I haven't tried fbook or any other social sites as I don't know if they are worth it.

As far as SE traffic is concerned I truly don't do any research at all. I buy a domain that has exact match of at least 50 a month and hope for the best. Am I doing something ever so wrong here?

I try to post good feedback when I can, truth is I just don't make enough to really carry weight in my results. As mentioned before I don't make enough to pay my rent with this even, but I try to make things work with this stuff and share when I can.

Recently we decided to try Some traditional ways to see results

One thing I am finding as an affiliate in 2012 is to build UP rather than to build across. That means try to build up your own brands and sites. It helps with Google and it's helps your general business. The affiliates doing well these days tend to have high quality and high traffic sites not 500 sites each getting 100 visitors a day.

Sit down and assess whether or not normal users would honestly want to come back to your site later. For many the answer is no. If that is the answer for your sites then think about what you can do to change it. Give them a reason to bookmark you. Remember you are competing against Porn Hub and the like. If you're going to try to do what they do you had better be damn good. Otherwise try offering something else.

This was the old way of doing it. You built up bookmarkers and went for word of mouth advertising. Now most affiliates don't even try it and are instead content with casting a net on the user hoping to snag him for a one time affiliate sale as he passes through their little area of the river known as Google.
