One of the reasons I wanted to be unbanned is because I logged on a few days ago and read some of the ridiculous things people were saying to AaronM about his concealed carry permit. I think some of y'all need to have a paradigm shift in your thinking about guns.

I have a concealed carry permit too. I carry my Glock 26 everywhere that I'm legally able to do so, which includes grocery stores, church and even into my bank (what better place to have a weapon of protection than in a place like a bank, which is known to be an attractive target by those who wish to commit certain crimes).

What is so hard to understand about carrying guns? Our society is getting more violent every day and it's just good sense to be better prepared to protect yourself and those you care about.

Cars are needed to move around, and are good if you want to travel long distance. Guns, what are they good for? More than shoting with? And killing things and so on.

Some may say they are good for "self defense" too, but that's just if there are tons of criminals in an area where you live. We don't walk around with guns in Sweden. And I'm happy for that. They are not needed, and shouldn't be used more than to hunting(rifles), by the military, and cops.

There was a story about a year ago of a Roseville police officer (gun expert, no?) who's daughter picked up his loaded weapon and put a .40 round right through her stomach... intestines all over the ground. She lived about an hour after that.

Also a story about 2 months ago about a police officer (gun expert, right?) who left a gun in a glove compartment... his son found it, and killed his sister with it while he was running an errand in a nearby store.

Since when does being a cop make you a gun expert? Suggesting that is nothing short of ignorance.

I've recently become friends with a Redding, CA police officer. What he knows about guns is limited to the weapon his department allows him to carry and even then, he knows very little other than how to shoot it.

The fact is, most cops know fuck all about guns and many of them don't even have a decent grasp of gun laws.

OK, so I've read the entire thread now. Nothing really new here. Some good points brought up by people on both sides of the argument. Has this discussion changed the laws, number of guns in America, or the way anybody feels? Nope.

Street gangs are a social problem, not a gun problem. If street gangs didn't exist you wouldn't feel the need to carry is basically your point. They do exist in places and that means you need protection perhaps, but arming everyone won't solve the street gang problem it will make it worse.

It is totally rational to protect yourself from known threats but when your threats get bigger so do your problems.

For example, I grew up in a shithole area in the UK, the houses looked nice only because they were new and the bricks and mortar of a place are immune to the bullshit of society.

I used to fight all the time when I was young, put friends through pain just to release my anger and got into trouble quite often because of it.

I've been in situations with police on both sides of the fence, when I was young I done something stupid and got caught and ended up being punished. 5-8 years later I was a victim and the same people who taught me a lesson helped teach someone else a lesson.

I carried a knife at one point, never had to use it, it was my brain causing me to believe I needed it because I read about people being stabbed and robbed and mugged.

Yes these people are out there, but the last time someone wanted to steal something of not "real" value but of a fair monetary value from me I laughed at him, he didn't know what to do. The basic truth is he wanted me to "lend" him my bike, or he was going to take it anyway. I pulled the biggest grin let out a huge laugh and looked at his little face as if it was an Orange. Nothing come of it.

I don't know why he felt he could try to push me around but I wouldn't let him, I never had any weapons available to me but my logic, my hands and my feet.
