They are "enemy combatants" and are somehow legally murdered because of it. In reality they are patriots and freedom fighters defending their family an country. The invading forces are the terrorists and enemies. Period.
The Afghans and Iraqis are doing the exact same thing any American or European would do if they were invaded.

In a few years, when the coalition get out with their tails between their legs, it will all go back to what it was before the invasion. Hamid Karzai will be given refuge in the West along with a few others, most of the supporters of the West will be dealt with harshly, let's hope not as harshly as in Cambodia.
Afghanistan will ally itself to China probably and they will get their hands on the Natural Resources.
America and the coalition will be counting the costs in terms of billions of debt and a lot of wasted lives.
And that's all that matters.
Bush will be lauded by the Right and America more despised by more people around the world.

I support them as brave and patriotic individuals, but not the cause they are sent to fight for and not the company / government they get their orders from. I actually feel sorry for them as they joined the military to do good (I hope) and instead are turned into murders and terrorists on foreign land. It's a bum deal and it is out of their control once they join, I understand that. They have to follow orders. But the hijackers on 9-11 just followed orders too. And they all have a choice to not pull a trigger or drop a bomb, even if that means they are punished. If I had to choose between being punished for not following orders or dropping a bomb into a village killing unarmed civilians, especially women and children, I would choose to be punished and discharged. There are some things I just do not want weighing on my soul, and killing innocent people, even if they are collateral damage, is not one of them. I prefer to remain a human being, not a soulless animal.
In the eyes of the Afghan people they are also the terrorists and enemy. There is no other way to say it. We are terrorists to them just as those who flew planes into our buildings are terrorists to us.
This does not mean ALL soldiers are bad. Just the ones who are over there killing for United States Inc. Being in Thailand we get LOTS of guys coming here for R&R and some of the stories they tell are just sickening. Haven't met one yet who thinks we're actually doing good in either country.Comment

Why would every Afhgani be my enemy? None of them are that I know of. I dont even consider the Somalis to be my enemy although I'm not going back there to walk thru the market in Mogadishu and and shout, "Hey! Remember me?" - that would be suicidal.
The problem with terrorists is that they dont act under the authority of any country and they dont wear the uniform of any military. So each one that gets slaughtered is of course an innocent civilian. We arent in Afghanistan fighting the Afghanistan military. We're having to figure out who the coward terrorists are hiding with the women and children.

Just a thought for everybody who is taking the side of US forces:
when the wars (Plural) came to my country, because the USA decided to invade/bomb/liberate, we were all force drafted
this basically means, armed men come for you and put you in a truck and give you a gun and make you fight the americans....if you don't you get shot in the face...
calling anybody a "combatant" or an "insurgent" is, in my point of view, being a low life scum bag...if for one second anybody thinks that all these people give a shit about the USA, its mickey mouse politics, its mickey mouse ideals, its "Freedoms" and all the other US propaganda shit then you are insane...
every single death caused by the presence of US troops on foreign soil is directly to be blamed on the US army and government...if you think anybody outside the USA and Israel see it any other way then you are insane...

although i like many things obama has done, doubling down on afganistan was a big mistake. As much as we want to help their country evolve out of poverty & lack of education, we can't. the cultural divide is far too big.
Karzai is a clown. 10 years of help from the USA & he has done nothing. As soon as we bail, he will fall. Its embarrasing having him as an ally. As useless as the shah of iran. The coming result will be the same, revolution.
