The editor of a Mexican newspaper was found dead, her body decapitated and with a note next to it, officials said.

Maria Elizabeth Macias Castro, 39, was the editor in chief of the newspaper, Primera Hora.

Her body was found Saturday morning, according to the attorney general's office in the northern Tamaulipas state. A message "attributed to a criminal group" was found next to her, the office said.

"The state government expresses its deepest condolences to the relatives and loved ones affected by these lamentable acts," the office said, adding that it is investigating.

Earlier this month, attackers left ominous threats mentioning two websites on signs beside mutilated bodies in northern Mexico.

A woman was hogtied and disemboweled. Attackers left her topless, dangling by her feet and hands from a bridge in the border city of Nuevo Laredo. A bloodied man next to her was hanging by his hands, his right shoulder severed so deeply the bone was visible.

Signs left near the bodies declared the pair, both apparently in their 20s, were killed for posting denouncements of drug cartel activities.

You're right about the first part. Most of them don't have any choice except to join them or die. However, we can't be 100% sure that those same teenagers don't kill journalists, women, kids and do other type of sick stuff like rape. Point is, it happens - a lot. So someone from the cartels must be doing it. You know it yourself, no human is pure...

I admit that I wouldn't be able to watch beheading, or any other type of execution in real life - even though I can't be 100% sure about that either, but since it didn't happen yet - I'd say I wouldn't.

Yes, I can watch animal abuse as well - I don't like it, but I'd be lying if I said I that I can't. As a matter of fact, I've seen animal abuse in real life, as a kid. Couldn't do shit about it, kids from my neighborhood used to catch birds, cats, dogs, and do all type of sick shit to them. the death toll right now is up to 40k people, but then again that only counts for people that they actually report, there are places where the police finds severed bodies and just calls them missing people, that way they wont be added to the actual murder count..
so who knows what the actual number is, all I know is I hear and read about this shit every single day now, and it seems is getting really close to the place I call home now....

I have to disagree. There's many medics who can see blood and wounds, but can't stand watching violence. I can pick up a heavily wounded animal from the street and bring it to a vet or put it out of its misery by hitting it on the head with a brick but I can't watch animal abuse. I worked in a steel factory and have seen horror human accidents there and could cope with it (but not eat for three days after it). And not every cop will pick up the body parts after someone jumped in front of a train. I had a discussion about that once with cops in Holland and they said... some can do it, some can't, so the ones who can do it, do it.
