What would a New Cam Site need to be competitive?

I've been a web developer for way too long now.
Back when I worked for a company we had a client that ran a foreign dating site with chat and video (we used kaltura) this was back in 2007/8, and I remember being impressed while working on the site that this sole guy was netting over $2,000 a week with just a couple of managers overseas. Skip forward to 2013 a year or so after it launched I discovered chaturbate & sites like it. So I figured I build my own & stop building annoying shopping carts. I got about 75-80% complete on the site by 2014 but it was basically just a mashup of myfreecams & chaturbate. Needless to say, life got in the way and I had to shelve the project for a bit, but I still want to launch it and once and for all stop making stupid shopping carts. What would I need to do, features should I incorporate to stand out?

Thanks in advance. :thumbsup

A few hundred models and don't use Flash.
Very good payment processing that is not too expensive.

Really, being an XloveCam affiliate and using our JSON data feed will probably make you more money with less grief than trying go up against multi million dollar companies in the webcam business.

I have 16 years experience running webcam sites -- you need a crew and a lot of capital to stand a chance to succeed IMHO. I have seen too many sites come and go ...

Thanks for the Feedback Barry.
Yeah Flash is going if not already gone the way of the Dodo.
Though my Java isn't the best I'll have to adopt https streaming.
I'll probably take you up on the affiliate offer, though I'm eyeing that "multi million" in that sentence, those companies had to start somewhere. I agree with you that if it took of in any noticeable way a crew would be needed. though I think that if done carefully the scaling and bandwidth could be managed with site/income growth.

I'm in touch with a well funded group that's planning a VR camsite. Hardware will be sold to the surfers at $250 commission for affiliates, etc. Leave an email if you want to discuss this.
