Math peeps: Does doing this give you a mathematical edge?
You go to the grocery store to buy lotto scratch cards. You have $20 to spend. The scratch cards are $2 each. The display contains a selection of 10 different 'games' each costing $2 with the same odds of winning per ticket...
Do you chose one each of scratch cards 1 thru 10 in the display, or chose one of the scratch cards at random and purchase 10 in a row of that particular one? Does buying 10 the same in a strip actually increase winning odds over purchasing 10 different games from the display, or this just an old wives tale? |

First check the website to see the number of winners left on the game you are playing. Then buy all the same tickets from the same strip. Yes, it does matter.

The lottery is rigged unfortunately, though it might give you a few small wins

considering it´s luck, there´s no edge, per say, I would suggest you take 10 from the same cards, giving you an edge to gain a win as they do say there´s a win in every 5 or 10 cards, rather than 1 of each card from separate piles

You didn't mention the odds of winning for each ticket. Let's assume the odds are 1 in 10 million for each, and that there is only 1 prize.
If you buy one ticket from each pile, your odds of winning are (10 x 1/10000000) But if you buy 10 tickets from the same pile, your odds are now (1 x 10/10000000) This is just a guess but it sounds right to me.

OK. So using the odds checker I determined that the card with the most potential winners (despite the lower potential jackpot) was the 'Fast 200' card with potentially 3322 winners... So I set out to purchase 10 from one roll. First shop only had 6 available, but I had to buy them because I had had them removed from the case. So I found a second sop and bought a strip of 10 all in one go... So.. Gonna go scratch... Hopefully its better ODDS than the 67,981 to 1 (Yes I checked the website) of the £200 I won the other day |

Yeah, a £200 plus a £10 and a £5... Not too shabby...
The Odds checker isnt a secret. Its right there on the national lottery site itself, and its updated daily... https://www.national-lottery.co.uk/g...e/scratchcards The reason the one I chose was so 'hot' was because they had just done a reprint to fill demand and there were a lot of winners just been pumped out into the stores. As the max prize is only £200 instead of a Million or something, theres quite simply just a hell of a lot more winning cards out in the wild atm. |

If as you say same odds of winning you can treat those 10 different as all of one same kind.
The only thing may be how each lottery prints winning tickets. Or even if all print in the same sequence, in that case by choosing 10 of the same you can get all of empty sequence and by choosing 10 different your chances of getting all from bad sequences is lower, but anyway even that evens out in a long run. |

Of course the smartest thing is not to waste money, because (don't know exact regulations in UK) they must give out maybe only 50% to the winnings and 50% to the house.
Playing roulette you get like 97% odds to your favor instead of 50% with scratch cards. Placing a bet at willhill for some under/over or handicap you get like 90-95% odds in your favor. Much smarter gambling than scratch cards. Of course I may understand playing for the thrill (as long as you understand that you will be losing at least 50% of your money in the long run). |
