    Copy a Shop

    I know a shop is normally made up of a Sql Database but I wondered if there was a way to copy the listings in a shop.

    I am looking to open an online store but the products are pretty generic and there are several stores selling the same products with the same descriptions etc.

          find where are they getting their listings , there must some main program , like amazon or somethinf else.,

          then use their api or some feeds .

          or you can just scrape the html pages ... using simplehtmldom

              No, these are independent shops, they are not using Amazon or anything like that. They don't have an API or feed.

              I don't really want to just scrape the HTML unless I could do that and auto populate a cart script somehow?

                      Look faggot. I run a legitimate real world business. I sell stuff to people that walk through my door.
                      I decided that I would like to sell the things I sell in my shop online but I am looking for a quick solution because there are thousands of products and we basically all sell the same thing,

                      I am just looking for a quick way to populate a cart script. How is that shady?

                          Basically you are looking a way to steal other people's work. And if the product descriptions are unique then you would also be breaking the law by copying those. Even copying non-unique collection (like website's whole catalog) may be breaking the law. So, not just shady; illegal.

                              Nah, I would edit the descriptions, title etc. The photos are generally just stock images.
                              It was just a way to get them all in one place for editing later rather than do it manually. Manual sucks.

                              Anyway, looks like it's not possible.

                                  When you do it manually you probably prioritize and also categorize things. Browsing through thousands of automatically blasted products is kinda pain in the ass and not that many customer will go through it. Unless you copy some categorization too (when it is not any better or worse than your competitors).

                                                                                          If you run a legitimate business and are a retailer then the manufacturer/distributor will be able to provide you with the product images, perhaps even allow you to use their generic descriptions, they may even have feeds for you to populate your shop with.

                                                                                                  Want a fast, legit way to do this? Get the info from the manufacturers if possible. Otherwise, create it yourself or hire someone to write unique product descriptions.

                                                                                                  I know someone who wanted me to flat out copy websites and press them for him when I worked for him as an IT developer years ago. I lost all of my respect for him and told him no then quit and started what I do now.

                                                                                                  If you don't have a soul then use wget and just use it in html, not mysql.
