That's more like a tourist info, what about 2 bedroom apartment rent, gas / transportation / taxi price? Any idea on a family living budget ( 4 ) ?
Depends of the months and of the city/area....
U want to go to live there?
If you go to the supermarket and buy the stuff to eat... 15/18 eur per day is good.. depends..
Bus is cheap... from FARO to LAGOS it was like 8 eur...
The taxi, from Lagos to Praia da Luz, like 6Km, at night I paid like 18 eur....., this trip by bus it was 2 eur
The house... it depends...
I have a friend there that lives on a small apartment - T1 - and he pays like 350eur and he lives 300m from the ocean, but its a old apartment... and he lives there all year so prices are lower...
OK!
House (600eur), water (30eur) gas (30eur), electricity (50eur), cable tv + internet + phone (80eur) = 790 eur/month - if u plan to live there
Food some 500 eur should do it...

I'm trying to compare Italy to Portugal, and I heard it's cheaper and comparably good even tho the country seems to be frozen in the mid 90s in terms of shopping malls and shit... but I wouldn't trust just a word but real comparison, so the only way is to check it out.
As far as I understand, that area you lived at it's pretty warm thru the year, and, most likely houses don't have central heating but rather AC that could also warm it up thru the winter if there is any in our understanding...
So, long term 2 bedroom renting ( 6 months + ) is essential. Don't speak Portugal, will it work or it's better to stay near Lisbon then?

Sounds good to me.
The water, how warm was it? I saw some good sand beaches on google but not sure if that is kids friendly.
