Large indexing problem

Hi I have a site that has so many pages, yet it's not being indexed like it used to be. 50% less.
Recently I changed the URL structure to a more complicated one.
I however redirected all old pages to new pages, however this is when problem started happening.
Also in google still shows old urls.
Traffic is on major decrease.

Is there any idea what I have done wrong?

google doesnt allways do a deep crawl. you might need a good authority site in bound to get a deep crawl

also you might need some deep links so if you have domain.com/cat1, domains.com/cat2 try getting some links to those pages. hopefully your site is structured with subcategories. so it will crawl those pages from some deep links

Before the switch of url structure it had all pages indexed, so I don't think deeplinks are the problem.
The problem occured when the swtich took place from url.com/hi.htm to url.com/57/hi.htm

It sounds to me like the redirection could be a problem? Google doesnt read redirects properly sometimes.

- make sitemap and add it to webmaster tools
- make 301 redirects on old urls
- sit and wait...

If the old pages aren't there anymore, wouldn't a well designed 404 page work better?

Log into your google webmaster account, and be sure that on top of 302/etc redirects internally on your site, you've properly delisted/asked for removal on the pages you want not showing anymore.

I don't have any problems getting my sites indexed. The bigger problem for me is getting external links.
