need advice setting up raid
I have some hardware on the way.
I will be using a 160gig solid state drive for the os. got a 1tb drive for apps and 5 x 2tb drives, i wanna do raid on. any advice on getting started?

You may need some more drive space, 11.16TB just won't cut it in today's computing world.

it all depends on the usage and your requirements, do you want to use RAID as part of speeding your I/O traffic up (faster read/write access) or is it all about data security (in which case you should use 1 disk for hot space)
With some more info I should be able to give you a better advice based on your situation |

why 5 drives ?
raid cards are either 4 port or 8 port. the cheapest decent raid card is the 2405 you can find one for around $200 http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support...raid/SAS-2405/
