If you want to produce music then the ultimate software for MAC is named "Logic Pro"

Damn when I think about the equipment and crates of vinyl I had to lug around NYC in the 80's dj'ing parties and events it makes me laugh. I was at a club last month and the dude was using 1 laptop. Amazing.

Bump for you.

this is what the master uses....

http://pauloakenfold.com/media/photos/289/5475

i would say 2 cd turntables and a mixer for you to start..

i used to use the denon's back when i used to fool around spinning...

you can get some used 3500's on ebay for about $250 each..

i used to use numark mixer

this looks pretty good for a beginner just to see if dj'ing is for you or not..

http://cgi.ebay.com/Numark-iDJ2-Mobi...ht_6206wt_1165

i will say that dj'ing is a lot harder than it looks..

anyone can cue up songs, but fading into songs without notice def takes some practice..

true that.. I just critiqued a friends mix he made a few weeks ago... haven't heard from him since. But I listen to house, trance etc. all day long everyday.. and I know what I like and what crowds like, and wasn't going to compromise that to make him feel better.. just helping him be better.

I always see these DJ's with one laptop and it really amazes me that they don't think their computer could crash in the middle of an event. Get two laptops and have them both hooked up to your mixer at all times

traktor is a nice piece of mixing software, hookable with midi mixer interfaces and pro players
for a beginner with low budget it's the best option imo, of course it wont give you a feel of your fingertips on vinyl or other scratch pads but nice affordable way to enter mixing

Also you might need a couple turntables. Technics 1200 MK2's would be nice

Here's a nice article with some links to apps and a few other things for DJing with your Mac.

http://arstechnica.com/software/news...j-software.ars

I play around with an App called Disco.

If you can afford it then go for the best up front.

It's a waste of money if you buy cheaper equipment just to buy the better ones later.

you can get less expensive CD players but do not skimp on the mixer or the software.

Serato Scratch live software

the mixer you can choose from Pioneer - DJM series, or if you want battle style mixer then one of the Vestax mixers.
