Anyone know anything about air purifiers for the home?

So many mixed reviews out there by people. Looking to get something to help with the allergies. Willing to spend money for a good one. Anyone have any suggestions here?

Had one, but from my experience, they aren't that good.

Often too small for a large room, ineffective when in silent mode and very loud when running on full power, expensive filters that need to be changes often and are sometimes hard to get...from my impression opening a window is alot more effective.

Had them for years now, all I know is when you clean them they are filthy inside so it must be doing something good if that stuff is accumulating. Get the ones from Sharper Image

I'm debating between these:

http://www.amazon.com/Ionic-CA200T-C...75286 &sr=8-3

http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-HHT-...575342&sr=8-41

http://www.amazon.com/Ionic-CA200T-C...75286 &sr=8-3

They all have permanent filters.

Besides Ion or Ozone which are great for their own reasons. Some that are really concerned should look into a few other options.

If you have whole house AC & heating. Change your filters often, clean out your ducts, add filters to every outlet as well as near your furnace and AC. Then really look into a UV light filter for your system.

I've been reading that the UV light filter is BS because it's not strong enough to kill most of the germs/viruses.

I had a Living Air freshener. Kinda pricey 700.00 bucks. The chemicals fried my Kush plants and ruined my harvest. The best is to use a Carbon filter and a good fan.

I would recheck that information out.
I know damn well they work and hell some are even replacing chemicals in their pools with those filters now. You just need to buy a good one and not some piece o crap knock off.
Also it works in conjuction with having multiple filters at every duct that you would change each month.

Oh and one other big thing. Carpets are very damn bad. If you must, stick with area rugs.

I was looking at those. Seems kind of pricey. Do you have to change filters on them or anything? I like the cheaper ones that you just wash every 6 months or so.

If you're willing to spend the money, I highly recommend the IQAir HealthPlus Pro ($800).

Avoid ozone generators as they damage lung tissue.

You could just wear a paper mask - of course if you have kids, you might want to think twice about taking away all of the germs that help them grow their immunities to disease - but then most fools these days are disinfecting their houses so they can end up paying more for doctors and medicines when their bodies can no longer fight the illnesses

No kids here. My allegies have been real bad this past year and making it difficult to sleep. I'm just looking for a little relief.

It says it only needs to be changed after 5 years. My question with it is that it doesn't seem like it has a fan to keep the air flowing. I thought the ones that worked best had the fans.

The fans can be noisy, and the filters expensive, but they are worth it.

Buy a few different kinds and try them out. I have a Honeywell.

In my experience a few will serve a whole big house, especially if you have a forced air heating system which moves the air around.
