Streaming video with flash

Does this automatically exclude any specific browsers or platforms? Looking for a solution for streaming that's Mac friendly, anyone know/have any suggestions?

Streaming and progressive FLVs should work on all platforms.

As far as I can see you dont really need the streaming server from Adobe unless you are going to be pumping out a load of vids. Even then Im not sure what real benefit it has. I have been reading up on it and its hard to get a straighforward answer.

This is fairly good - it is from Adobe, but the advice seems pretty non-biased and they dont insist you fork out for the streaming server.

$100 will get you this player I've done: http://www.wedesignxxx.com/temp/player/
can play whatever video you want and also has some nice features - full screen, autoplay on/off etc. - all these are variables you can alter in the html code that calls the swf file.

I saw in another thread you like our games too www.adultgamestemple.com - meanwhile we change our site design and the prices shrinked ...

let's do some biz , hit me on icq ;)

You want to use a program that has 2-pass encoding (ie: Sorenson Squeeze)... higher quality video and much smaller file size. Check out Flix Pro http://www.on2.com/consumer/flix-pro

Mardigras has it right.
If you're looking for properly priced flv players, hit up flvplayer.com

You'll get pro. ones for around $5 - $40.

Just as an update:

The main difference between a live-streaming server and a progressive download, is that the live-server can be used for broadcasting live events - camshow rigs, events, that type of thing.

Progressive players are actually really easy to code. A quick and nasty with basic buffering will end up as a 2-5k .SWF - only a couple of lines.

Advanced buffering, fullscreen etc, not too much more work. As I said above - check out flvplayer.com - it has a reasonable roundup, and some free ones.

Lookit unless you want a player coded specificly to your site there is no need to spend money.

http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash_Video_Player

This player you can add a jpeg file which will overlay on the player and make it match the colors of your site.

Sign up to promote www.boobycash.com Here you will see a .flv video embedded in the page using this player. http://www.irinasky.com/tour/

That player looks good, works fine, and is very configurable. If you need help on how to get it going let me know and Ill try and help you.
