How many of you use SPAM to promote stuff?

Be honest. Its anonymous poll, so your dirty little secret will be safe with the keepers of the GFY database.

We all know what spam is regardless of whatever you tell yourself to help you sleep at night or to win lawsuits in court, so lets not split hairs. People on this board have alleged that damn near everyone in adult sends SPAM or causes it to be sent. Is it true?

I think there's various interpretations of what constitutes spam.

If you're referring to spam as unsolicited email - then no, we don't spam.

But we've constantly posted original images (with watermark/logo advertising) to Usenet newsgroups, Yahell groups and MSN communities for the past decade...some refer to that as spam.

To the three people who've voted yes, I hate you.

Look at these stats for all of my email addresses:
spam 33,602 (93.10%)

93.10% of my emails, exactly 33,602 pieces of email were spam. These stats started from Tue May 24 02:44:41 2005. So that is just over a year.

Sad to say I get that in a month. 95%+ of that now gets filtered but even so - what a fucking waste of time, energy and BW. The cost of having to have publicised and heavily used email addresses on multiple domains I suppose

If sponsors wouldn't whore webmaster e-mail addresses I would have at least 80% less spam than I do now

No, there isnt. Everyone knows what SPAM is, but they all use various rationales to justify it. "If I include an opt-out link, its not spam" is but one example. "If they dont tell me when registering not to send them my crap, then its OK" is another. SPAM and SPIM are two different things. I am talking about e-mail, not AIM or Usenet or WebBBS or whatever.

Spam is too salty. It's best to wrap some rice, egg, kimchi, or other stuff around it before giving it to someone to eat.

Translation: ads only = bad. Targeted and useful content which can be read as ads = good. Email spam = always bad.

There is a recent thread on GFY about forming an association to represent us and lobby for us, among other things. Yes they were dreaming.

Can you imagine the thought process of a goverment official, whoever or what ever level, listening to a representative of an industry that just dumped emails into his/hers and their kids email box promoting hard core porn?

More interesting would be to know how many making a decentish number of sales per day, say...10, are using spam and how many making less than 10 on average each day are spamming. I bet the results for those making 10+ a day contain a MUCH higher % of spammers.

It's never been true to say that most people in adult send spam and anyone saying it is frankly a clueless idiot. BUT, by the same token it's still unfortunately pretty accurate to say that many of those with a decent number of sales are spammers.

I decided years ago that pissing people off (spam annoys the fuck out of me) with spam wasn't worth the few extra dollars. Karma and all that I suppose i.e. treat people nice and you'll usually get treated better yourself and be much, much happier in life generally.

It always amuses and amazes how self-important spammers think they are because they make a few extra bucks than many of the minnows in porn when the reality is most people simply think of them as worthless scumbags. There are less annoying ways to make those few extra bucks and still keep your dignity.

wow... lucky you, my gmail account gets 6,000+ spam emails a day to it, lucky for me google is good at filtering it, and only maybe 10 pieces a day hit my inbox the rest goes in spam and deletes itself after 30 days
