With the price of gas now days, you really can not lose when buying one. Before that were not that well worth it. But also dont expect to get the same mileage that they got when testing it. You will usually end up at about 37 to 44.

What really bugs me about them, is that Honda I think has one that gets almost 100 miles to the gallon, but it is still in the " TESTING " phase.

You don't really save much on gas. I think that they said if this is something you're looking at when buying a hybrid, you'd have to own the car for 10+ years before you'd see any real savings over an identical non-hybrid model.

ya i can see how thats true, having a car payment for years but if you're lookin to get a new car anyways, around the same price, it'd be cheaper to get a hybrid (car payment but much less gas) rather than a new car with the same amount of gas.

wonder how good the technology in those engines are, would they even last 10 yrs?

I think it's a great concept, however I don't know about the HP. Not much for a SUV.

Well lets see. I have an F150, and fill the tank at least 1 time a week, and I really dont drive that much. I also dont have to use the AC often, because it is cool here most of the year. It cost me 67$ to fill my tank. I get about 17.5 miles to the gallon. If I were getting 35 to 40, then I would be saving enough money to justify the payment of the new vehicle.

You get around twice the MPG over a standard model. With pricing options getting closer and closer between standard and hybrid I do not see that as the same anymore. Hell if you only spend 300 a month on gas that still is a 1800 a year savings. If the price point was 2000 higher for the hybrid you would break even by month 14.

gas is $12 a gallon here, they offer $5k gov chip-in on hybrids and guess what, noone drives them

maintainence is high $, you gotta service them AT the dealer nowhere else, the toyotas look crap, the lexus one costs like a Rolls here.

Plus dieselengines run a LOT cheaper and are enviromentally ok as well nowadays.

Same is true for replacing normal incandescant lightbulbs with flourescents, but I did it anyway. A 3 pack of 15watt bulbs was $5.99 (same light output as 60 watt regulars). Still a good idea though!

In 1996 I bought my car based on its mileage of city/hwy: 29/40 mpg

Too bad we gave up on fuel economy for the past 10 years

Selling Diesel engines to Americans is just as hard as selling sand in the desert

it's still pretty new technology, I would wait a few years for all the "bugs" to get worked out... and besides the gas is not THAT expensive to justify paying few extra k for a hybrid version of the car...

Serious? In the Netherlands every station has it. Not sure, but I think diesel/gasoline is here like 50/50

Diesel is like 1.05 a LITER, and Gasoline(95) around 1.40 EURO a liter

Yeah seriously. Most of the regular gas stations do not even carry it, and if they do the price currently is more per gallon than the cheap unleaded.

It's a ford. Expect more repairs than normal. Especially with new technology that they have yet to perfect.

Toyota really has the best hybrids right now. Less chance of mechanical failure and better energy recovery with the way they have things set up.

Ford and chev havent perfected it yet, Honda has but is still testing their new technology. So if your eally want a Hybrid thata ctually has any benefot, go Toyoto.. too bad Toyota has suffered in comestic quality over the years though.

I think its a little weird that a brand new Ford Focus goes through a full tank of gas a day where as my 1990 Mazda RX-7 driven the same amount seems to last 3 times as long before needing refilled.
