Really? Maybe you were running an old version or hadn't tweaked the config files? We run close to 200 querys/second =~15 million querys/day with a 0.5 load on the DB server, mostly simple n+1 UPDATEs and INSERTs though.

mysql is great expect you don´t know how to tweak it or you have a weak database layout.
some heavy loaded sites use it without any problems. Even if you get a very high load you can use the replication features and split the load on different database servers.

Both S-Q-L and Sequel are the truth pronounciation, this funny different was made by IBM and Microsoft about 10 yrs ago.

Mysql is the great database server. The most important thing is it's free so it can't do something cool or gives the best efficiency like some expensive dbs. But it still great for us who use it only on the internet.

Some unprofessional table design and/or script coding will cause the db down as hell. So before you purchase a script or hire some programmer, ask them if they're a professional.

mysql is nice for 'smal to medium ' project's

most problem is that some guy's getting php and mysql onthe server ...
coding ( pasting ) a 3 line phpscript
into the htmlfiles ...
and NOW the guy is not more a webdesinger he is NOW A webprogrammer and database admin.

then he start to make tables like
create table website (htmlcode longtext)

and later on the site select ...

dynamic pages

but the best is the own searchengine !
select * from website where htmlcode line '%key%'

OK now mysql suxx
