Report Declares Microsoft a National Security Risk

A report to the Federal Government from the CCIA (Computer and Communications Industry Association) has declared Microsoft to be a risk and threat to the National Security of the United States due to its immense virtual domination of the operating systems and day to day software used in people's home and business computers.

The report illuminated on the vulnerabilities of the entire country being so dependent on a single system that has been plagued with continuous security flaws.

It is pretty scary. I was thinking about it this morning. If anything happens to Microsoft I'm fucked along with everyone else reliant on their products in their business.

Nobody needs to "rely" on Microsoft products.

Theres nothing you can do on Windows that you can't do on Linux.

Ya, but most people don't wanna spend hours just maintaining linux. I'd like to install and run. None of that manual stuff as in linux.

Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

Its an interesting point actually:

For close to 75 years the US has been intentionally spreading out all its defense contracts and for example preventing any single dominant player from controlling airplane manufacturing... The big fighter contracts and so on always go round-robin.

I wonder if the OS industry is going to become regulated in the interests of homeland security...

Declaring MS is a national security risk and doing something about it are entirely different. I'd like to see what the government actually plans on doing about it.

This is not the first time the CCIA went after Microsoft in 02/11/03 they filed a formal complaint with the European Commission in Brussels against Microsoft Corporation sighting new and widespread violations of European competition law.

The CCIA wanted the European Commission to restore competition to the markets that Microsoft now dominates and to try to prevent future harm to these and other markets. Now we see that the CCIA is following through on the here is the US. I say great job they have my support!
