Hey everyone I am looking at a product:

Please post your thoughts here would like to see some feedback. would you pay for this product I am about to pay couple of hundred dollars not a bi deal but still do i need it?

AHL (AntiHotLinker) Information

We have the only working solution to protect your movie files against hotlinking. AHL (AntiHotLinker) provides bullet proof anti hotlinking protection and full control of hotlinking traffic. AHL (AntiHotLinker) not only saves bandwidth, it makes money!

THERE WAS NO WAY TO PROPERLY PROTECT MOVIES BEFORE AHL (AntiHotLinker)
Standard Apache Rewrite Module that you use to protect images cannot protect movies, since movie players do not pass referrers and you have to allow visitors without referrer information, thus leaving your movie files open for hotlinkers.
Use of cookie based protection fails since there are plenty of visitors that turn off that feature in their browser settings. You also have to include a Java Script on all your pages to use this feature and it creates problems with people who turn off Java Scripts in their browsers as well.
Use of any other method utilizing scripts written in PHP, CGI or Java Scrip creates problems with TGP scripts that simply blacklist submissions with script statements in the HTML documents. This is not to mention that you have to rewrite all your existing pages with the new code, which is time consuming and will lead to a definite blacklist of all your domains, emails, and IP's.

Our statistics show that approximately 15% of all movie requests come from visitors generated by the hotlinkers posting direct links to your movies. These include: a) bulletin boards all over the world (mainly in Asia and Eastern Europe); b) cheating TGPs, Movie Posts, CJs, free sites, and even pay sites run by cheating webmasters; c) friend to friend email links; d) direct movie bookmarks. Visitors from all of those sources use your bandwidth but never see any of your advertisements!

I get creamed by asian BBS boards every day.

Easy enough to stop actual hotlinking, but how do I stop anyone who was referred to the page from a BBS?

More and more the BBS guys are just posting the actual link to the page so it isn't really hotlinking, or they will post the URL's to the movies for cut and paste use.

What I need is to be able to block or redirect ala Pennywize anyone who comes from a bbs like http://hung-ya.com/ .

Well you could do that in code
Why dont you check the referance of the click if it comes from your site let them in, if not send to your blind link partner and make a penny or so. I have a feeling thats what we are going to do.

I know a few guys writing scripts for anti-hotlinking of movies because of the .htaccess issues.

That's a crock of shit....

The solution was basically a script to rename the content folder at a time span you specify - (eg: 1 hour so no to disrupt your members) which is linked to from an .htaccess protected members page.

OR contact Ray from the webmastersguide.com - He produces an adapted Blackbox script for movies which is also a password abuse script.
