If Your Sales Are Down ...

A comment on another thread brought up a question.

I said, “A few weeks ago I went to a jewelry store for a watch battery. The conversation was just about this since such garbage was in the cases. She wanted $15 for a $3 watch battery but I said it was too expensive and she charged me $5. It’s like business is so bad they’ll break even just for a sale...”.

If your paysite sales are down, how do you generate interest and sales?

.... do you spam forums by looking for people to advertise your site?
.... do you email old customers?
.... do you lower your price(s) but still earn enough to pay for it?
.... do you buy more content and hope an investment pays off?
.... do you use social media as a tool?
.... do you stop worrying and hope in time it will recover?
.... do you just give up and try something else?

Back in the day I began with two paysites. One had 2,500 specific pics and didn’t update but once a year or more. It was just one join, not recurring, and generally it did on average four sales per day. Join price was $14.95 but 99% of pictures were given to me. Bandwidth wasn’t capped so it was all profit basically. I ran the credit cards so didn’t pay extra after two percent bank charges.

The other paysite was updated weekly. I bought content rarely and offered videos plus access to a large network of paysites in other genres. $19.95 recurring with free membership if they subscribed to my magazine. Once I stopped publishing I gave all subscribers a free year.

If sales declined I’d check the calendar, check the newsgroups for chatter, check my updates and pricing, and search deep for my content on another site. Depending on the situation, I’d not panic and might do a free month with two month purchase, half price for a year, free month if you joined a sponsor paysite, or have patience and wait for it to pick up again.

Sales suffer around Christmas, gift-giving holidays and summer vacations. January is slow as people pay off Christmas bills.

Now this is fairly common knowledge. Back then I'd worry but think it out. Forums weren’t busy and just began. Other paysite owners were doing awesome, they claimed. Then I’d view their site join page and see big savings and tons of freebies upon joining. I realized people lied about sales when helping a hacked webmaster. I gave him my script to track logins with username and IP, then looked his over. His “twenty joins a day” claim was debunked by the logs. A few logins daily by mostly the same people other than the leaked passwords. I never told him I knew he lied but did tell him the usernames were posted in newsgroups every day. The hacker posted his script, too. My admin did a script to block it. Hacker was stupid to post his hack script in public!

nope... the stuff is marked up 300+% if you go to a watch wholesaler you can see a fraction of the markup. if you have a battery number 4 what battery you need on ebay you can get a sheet of 100 LOL under 3 bucks hahahaha!!!!!!!

I only needed one battery after about five years of usage. I paid $5 and they installed it, too. The watch band is material not leather and is stained from something. I’m looking online for a new band in leather that’s pink.i looked quickly but tomorrow I’ll do a deep search. eBay is the same price as stores but I can return things and get free shipping at Amazon and other stores. Amazon is my first choice when shopping.

$15 without installing the battery? My momma dint raise no dummy!
