I just realized my passport is expired on 7/26/14 and I am to fly to the Montreal tomorrow. Am I screwed or can I present other forms of ID, like a birth certificate?

you are screwed..although funny enough it was the USA who demanded this change

You used to be able to go back and forth between Canada and the USa with just a drivers license

Where, given their usual processing rate, it would be more effective for you to duplicate yourself with a second X chromosome, impregnate the duplication and wait until they're 18 to get a passport that looks like a very young you.

might be able to drive across border.. not sure if this is still current or only during the 'implementation' process

yea this isn't current.. need something like a 'passport card', and unable to get back into the US with just birth cert/DL..
