To blog, or not to blog? That is the question!
Does adding a blog to a site benefit it in terms of SEO?

Yes, blogs are great for SEO. But you have to update them frequently with unique entries.

NO... Blogs are not great for SEO; however they are still a good idea...
Search Engine Optimization has nothing to do with Blogs... The entries within the Blog may or may not be "SEO'ed" ... It is more the issue of having your feed(s) being indexed by your chosen keywords, meta tags etc... that drives traffic to your site(s)... If you don't think this is so then open up a Blogger account and try to get traffic to your Blog without going overboard with linking schemes... by only submitting to Search Engines... Create entries that are SEO'ed and some that are not and do a search in the different search engines looking for your articles... Keep in mind your site should be submitted to the different search engines, which may take a few weeks... so do your search after your indexed ! To check to see if your site is indexed by a search engine all you have to do is enter your website URL as a search entry... do a search by your domain name in your chosen Search Engine. If you have a handle on SEO, in the first place, you should have no problems having your SEO'ed entries indexed in the different search engines... and you should be able to find your entries in good locations. This is a good learning exercises, |

Running a blog on a existing site is a good idea. And yes, it seems that blogs have some love from search engines. ;)
