I've never been in a real firefight, but I did work base security when I was in the Navy and had to do training with Marines on a pistol and shotgun course on a regular basis. Just moving from cover to cover, firing and reloading was stressful -- mostly because a Gunnery Sargent was screaming at me the entire time. Imagine the stress of having real bullets flying at you.

This video says these people are untrained.

School staff who carry get a ton of training from the police.

Conclusion:

and when are they getting this ton of teaching? During their lunch breaks? During the summer break? When they take a leave of absence?

Ask the police in the school districts that have done this for years. Many school staff already have guns. It's time to stop disarming them, like that poor coach in Florida that took bullets & died

I have no idea what planet you're on. Clearly it's one that lacks logic & common sense. Some school districts have done this for years. They don't spend extra money hiring security guards in a uniform (the first target of a shooter.) They have armed teachers & staff who volunteer to concealed carry. No one but the principal knows which 20% of the staff are armed. A sign out front warns of the armed staff.

No school shootings. What a coincidence!

Again this has been happening for years. In America. Here on this planet.

The coach in Florida had a permit but wasn't allowed to carry. Like i said before.

But don't let the facts trigger your Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Newsflash: Teachers Are Already Armed

so the sheriff says teachers get 3-5 days training and you think this is enough to turn an art teacher in to a trained shooter?...

list of things you can learn well in 3-5 days:

/end of list

list of things you stay good at without constant training:

/end of list

this is how life works...this is why people go to gun ranges to train and train and train...and even when they do they shoot at inanimate paper targets that do not shoot back...hitting a moving target is much much harder...from a distance and with a pistol, hitting a moving target is pure luck...

honestly speaking the only situation where I can envision a teacher taking out a shooter is if the teacher somehow got a shot at point blank range and the shooter by some miracle did not take the teacher out already...

the "5 day rambo" training does not exist...there is no "instant john wick" course one can attend...taking a precise shot, under extreme stress, in a hallway full of screaming kids, while being out-gunned with bullets flying everywhere is not something a 5 day course can cover...IRL the teacher would probably be shaking from fear...

trained police with decades of experience stayed clear and waited for backup...this is reality...I wish life was like in the movies...but its not...reality is a bitch...

Arming teachers is an immediate slight fix for a problem that has been building for decades. It's not going to deter all shootings and at best will move the shooters to an area outside the school or attack those classes without an armed teacher.

It won't do anything to reduce the number of shooting in the US. The only way to do that is to take firearms away from people who might use them for mass shootings. Now tell us why you won't flip one day and take it out on the community.

Why is it that the angriest here over guns, own them? Would seem sensible that they don't own any guns.

Paul, no one knows which teachers are armed. That's the point. A guard in uniform will be the first target.

Who's angry over guns? I've never owned one (shot plenty though at the range). What people are getting angry about is the push to infringe on our constitutional rights to liberty and self-defense. It's called 200+ years of freedom, Paul, and that "shall not be infringed."

No, it's not. It doesn't fix anything. The moment shoots are fired it's too late. These things are over in seconds, not minutes; By the time a teacher or police officer arms themselves and takes action dead bodies have hit the floor.

Arming teachers also doesn't solve the problems of churches, malls, or theaters - or any other place people gather.

^^^ "The moment shots are fired, it's too late to help anyone else! Why bother trying to prevent multiple fatalities! They shot one person, just let them shoot the rest!"

Rochard, there is no logic in your assertion. Also, there have been several attacks on churches where church members SHOT BACK. I'm not talking about Texas. I'm talking about actual churchgoers, inside a church, who shot back. It just happened again last week in Russia, but the media won't tell you that, because they want you to believe that A) Gun violence only happens in America, and B) Good guys with a gun don't exist, we must ban everyone from having them.

Don't fall for the fake news narrative.

The majority of these people in favor of this dumb idea have never fired a fucking gun in their life. How many of the known douchebag righties on this board have ever actually touched a gun? They're only cheering for lax gun control because it's a pet issue of their side. That doesn't mean they know one fucking thing about a gun besides what they've seen in the movies.

I'm a liberal for strong gun control and I've put more rounds through more types of full auto weaponry than almost anyone I know...conservative or liberal. It makes sense to not make guns so easily available. It doesn't make sense to have educators of children do double duty as an armed sentry.

Here is something else no one has ever considered.... What happens when shots ring out and a teacher arms themselves and runs into a room where the shooter is... only to find out the shooter is a student they've known for the past six years?

Shot plenty of different type of guns, bud. And it does make sense to let school staff who are familiar with guns, if they want to volunteer, let them carry. They're volunteers, so ne need to waste money on a guard in a uniform waiting to get shot because he's in uniform.

Of course, the liberal loons like wasting tons of cash, so I'm not surprised you don't get the concept of saving money

I know but if implemented it will prove a flop and force politicians to think harder.

You live in a world that doesn't exist. Under fire you're expecting teachers to rush out into a corridor unaware of where a shooter is, what he's armed and expect him to kill with the first or second shot. Against some nutcase armed with an AR15!!!!

Got a link to the Russia story so we can see how effective those returning fire were?

If a teacher rushes into a corridor to confront an armed assailant or two he puts his life at risk. The odds of him getting off a fatal shot are very long. Someone armed with an AR15 will spray him with bullets.

If the teachers stay in the classroom to shield his kids. Likely he will miss with his first shot. Then the shooter will move onto the next class.

You are being unrealistic about the accuracy of pistols and teachers.

Paul you're making some valid points. Of course the school staff would need a lot of training and refresher training. I think the main thing is just having signs outside the school that say the staff is armed. A potential threat will move on and find a "gun free zone."

I'm a liberal for strong gun control and I've put more rounds through more types of full auto weaponry than almost anyone I know...conservative or liberal. It makes sense to not make guns so easily available. It doesn't make sense to have educators of children do double duty as an armed sentry.
[fuck you] my 30 year old daughter does in fact teach elementary school. my choice is to get her get gun combat training. if you do not like the idea of my daughter being able to protect her life. [/fuck you]

maybe talk about shit that is real to you for a bit rather than parroting useless bullshit slogans and political group think tool boy that WILL get my daughter killed

btw dipshit, did it ever occur to you that more ARMED BYSTANDERS would change the fucking pie? what a dope
more armed people always leads to the same result...

all the gun nuts are pretending that theres too many guns out there to control but this is simply not true...I have no doubt that teachers will get armed, hell why not try something, but reality is a bitch and you will see that teachers are not rambo...then what?

sooner or later there will have to be heavy gun control in the USA just like everywhere in the world...
