need hosting - specific requirements

hi all,

i will be needing hosting very soon (don't be afraid; this is not going to be another "need hosting, who's best" thread :)) but the thing is i got some pretty specific requirements. it's for a new site, but i'm not a newbie at all... i have been active as an adult webmaster since late '99. last year and a half i have been busy with projects other than websites and i completely let go of my sites. these projects are all finished for me now and i'm returning to my talent & core business: websites... so this is about my comeback :winkwink:

this is what i'm looking for:

- i need easystat and webalizer installed... i can manage to do that myself but due to efficiency reasons i'd prefer to outsource it. so a managed account is preferred...

- 20 GB - 50 GB traffic to start with. if the pricing is very competitive and only larger accounts are offered, then starting with a bigger account is an option ofcourse. btw this 50 GB is only for starting up, i expect the bandwidth to increase very fast very soon after the launch due to i have been working on this project for months now and i know what i'm doing :)

- a *minimum* of 150 MB diskspace to start with - flexible diskspace policy/pricing would be a pro

- PHP, must be version 2.3.0 or higher!

- MySQL database

- unix/linux & apache with mod_rewrite

- at least one private IP number

- crontab

- telnet/SSH (SSH preferred)

Then, besides these straight requirements a lot more things are very important ofcourse. i'm speaking of network, server hardware specs, support, no horror stories :) etcetera...

About pricing; far over $2/GB is getting a bit unreal but the requirements stated above and quality outweigh pricing by far... somewhere between $1 and $2 per GB would be real nice.

well, if you know of any host who might help me out on this i'd be delighted if you let me know... ref codes welcome :thumbsup

I host 2 boxes with Brad over at sinhost and love it.

The stats are Generated by Webalizer Version 2.01 and whatever Easystats is I'm sure he will work it out with you Brad's a pretty flexible guy when it comes to blowjobs and servers.

Just my :2 cents: on hosting

thanx for the tip

davvve 11-24-2002 06:29 AM

will AWstats do instead of Webalizer? if so, send me an email...

Yeah, very good host !! :thumbsup

tha_timinator 11-25-2002 02:15 AM

thanks for all the input guys:

davvve - AWstats will do but i see GodHost is on cogentco and i prefer being on a premium network

dantheman - thanks you're on my list

XSV - the same as with GodHost: i prefer a premium network over cogentco

patmccrotch - thumbserver's virtual packages start at 100 GB, that's too much for starting up

Take_Aim - sounds interesting but who are "us" ?!?! :helpme

The PHP 4.3.0 or higher requirement is off... Just PHP 4 is ok now...

Whoops... I suddenly notice that my original post says "PHP 2.3.0 or higher"... That was supposed to be 4.3.0 !

But nevermind, that requirement doesn't matter anymore anyways...

ASk for Shane or James

These guys can custome build a server for you, they do dedicated and virtual (I wouldn't go virtual again), I have my own server with them, and they're great

1.25/GB no overage charge just 1.25/GB

Just my two cents.
