Hey Gearheads - Car guys!

I am looking for the lightest curb weight car possible for a project. It needs to be around 1600lbs or lower. The best thing I can find is a early 90s geo metro. Anything else out there?

Older the better. I am doing an EV conversion so I will basically be ditching everything but the transmission etc. Motor goes, all gas features go.

Get a old Volvo 360 with the 2,0L engine
Its RWD and is around 950 kg standard, but can be stripped down to about 1600punds if you remove the crap inside.

Then buy a Volvo b21ET or b23ET engine. Its easy to boost above 400bhp and the engine last forever if you do it right.

Or do like adam
Old Datsun + a nissan SR20DET engine http://sr510.com/

hands down the honda crx.

they're very light to begin with, and you can easily put them on a diet to make them even lighter. i think their curb weight is right around 1700lbs.

OH, if its a EV conversion I would go with a Honda Civic or a lowprofile car like that for best aerodynamic

Porsche 914 with no engine is pretty light.

James Greuel 11-12-2008 07:04 PM

get an opel gt

light body, very areodynamic, handles well, and cheap. You can find a body for about five hundred on ebay, and get the weight down to 1600, with no engine or trans.
