McCain just nailed his own coffin shut

Watching the debate and they are asked about if they would appoint judges based on how they would vote on Roe V Wade. McCain says he is pro life, but says he wouldn't count out pro-life judges when deciding who to appoint. Judges are a big sticking point for the evangelicals and I have a feeling they are all suddenly not very happy.

Without them he can't win and I think he just lost a lot of them.

And they went to Obama?

Nope. They just won't vote or they will vote for obscure 3rd party candidates just like they did in the 2006 congressional elections. The religous right turned their backs on the republican party and they lost both the house and senate. There were democrats elected in places where democrats never get elected because many evangelicals didn't vote.

No, those guys will vote AGAINST Obama not necessarily FOR McCain.

Some may, but many won't. They didn't like McCain to begin with and they started to warm up to him when he picked Palin, but he may have just brushed a lot of them back off. There has been a lot of writing by leaders of the religous right and others who cover that area of politics that say that the religous right have stopped voting strictly for a party and more for individuals that they believe in.

Right wing idiots will vote for Obama? sure

I know several people of faith who are pro-choice. Alienating the religious right aside, what I find hard to believe is that McCains stance itself, which is one of opposition to the roe v wade decision, isn't the thing that hurts his chances.

I realize most people aren't going to base their vote on that one issue, but it's a doozie.

You gotta give him credit for the 'I am not bush" line though.

That was a good line. All along during this campaign Obama's tactic was to link McCain to Bush and he has done a very good job of it. McCain had to start saying "I'm not Bush" About a month ago for it to help him.
