Just watching "Mean Streets" from Scorsese (1973)

Almost 1 AM here, my work for today is finished and it's the first time I have a chance to see this flick,

It definitely has his trademark / dynamic style of shooting although there probably aren't yet such an incredibly mastered dramaturgy / wit and changes of pace.

It definitely has an atmosphere, one of the movies that always makes me willing to hit New York, Harvey Keitel in the leading role is excellent as well as Robert De Niro as the "Johnny Boy".

An overture to such classic cinema fundaments such as "Taxi Driver" or "Raging Bull".

I could guess there a strong influence to Tarantino in his directing style and raw / furious pace / uncensored dialogues and indeed as I just checked imdb he lists Scorsese and especially taxi driver as one of his influences.

Truly an awesome movie.

I caught it on TV though, I think on VHS... and some of the scenes at the end seem a little undersaturated, no contrasted, affected by the low lighting...

I would love to have seen it at the greatest repertory theatre in the world, The Seville in Montreal - that thing had the hugest screen and the loudest sound of even the commercial theatres... sigh...

anyhoo - what format did you watchi it in? did it suffer at the end?

:D

Martin Scorsese is great.

I do not think "overture" means what you think it means.

did a dvd and no issues whatsoever

What's interesting is that it's a great piece of a movie although it doesn't have a real story, just describes a piece of life of its characters, simply starts at one random point and finishes at another one..
