Good to know things are so much better there now. Yet, another day that I am being happy for accidents of birth..especially as a woman.

Haha - I'm sure THAT story wasn't sensationalized..... LOL

Paul Markham 01-31-2008 04:52 AM

It's their country and they can run it anyway they like.

Why do we expect people who are culturally in the 15th or 16th Century to act any different than we did back then?

When it threatens us we should go in and destroy what threatens us, like the invasion of Afghanistan. Tell them that if they want to grow poppies for the export of opium to the West we will bomb the fields.

But hanging a guy who broke their laws has nothing to do with us.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but is it right? It's their country to run how they see fit, not how we see fit.

SmokeyTheBear 01-31-2008 08:53 AM

keep in mind he didn't just read it , he was passing it out at his school to the teachers and students.

if you tried doing the same thing with nazi literature you would prob be in trouble too.

Now mind you the punishment is alot different. but if you went to thailand with a gram of heroin its alot dif punishment than in the usa.

i think the most important factor is whether he KNEW that would be his punishment before handing out the literature.

Not that at makes it any better/worse but if you know the law will work against you , wouldnt it be better to change the law rather than break it ?

LeRoy 01-31-2008 08:57 AM

He should have known better.

notoldschool 01-31-2008 08:58 AM

Makes me very happy to be born in the USA.

directfiesta 01-31-2008 09:03 AM

Imagine how bad it would be if they had not gotten delivered democracy .....

cherrylula 01-31-2008 09:18 AM

About time they sentenced a man to die for women's rights, instead of killing a woman for being raped or something. Its a beginning.

Until the men speak up for the women, they will always be underprivelaged.

Brother Bilo 01-31-2008 09:19 AM

Wait a minute.....women have rights?

J/K LOL

No they can't. Sovereign countries can only be run the way Americans want or else they invade it and bomb the fuck out of civilians. :2 cents:

cherrylula 01-31-2008 09:22 AM

The whole thing is messed up!
But consider this, the Koran is the basis for their means of government and attacking the Koran means attacking the government. The west is interested and gaining allies in the middle east to take down governments and those that attack the Koran are great recruits. If he spread his view to many people with great success there would be many people available to take down the government which will lead to more killing(at least in the short term).

His approach to solving the issue of womens right should not have involved the Koran or statements claiming others misinterpeted the Koran.

Everybody in the region is well aware that their is the death penalty for blasphemy.

I don't agree with this, but when in the middle of a hell fire don't be stupid enough to ask for some gasoline.

V_RocKs 01-31-2008 11:43 AM

Shitty country to live in.

I'd move asap.

We set ourselves up as being whiter than white and everyone should run their countries as we do. Sadly when you look at us we are not so white and some of the things we do are abhorred by others. Like selling porn.

So a mentally ill man on death row is justice or not?

A poor man getting convicted because of his ability to pay for a lawyer is justice or not?

A man dying because he can't afford to pay for a surgeon is justice or not?

Putting the world to rights starts at home.

I will not even start on a man being judged on the color of his skin.

I was protesting against injustice years before most here were born, anti Vietnam war rallies in London. My conscience is clear.

Michaelious 01-31-2008 11:47 AM

Not very surprised really. That's the sad thing.

Elli 01-31-2008 11:52 AM

He's inciting rebellious thoughts in an already dangerous population (university students.) It's natural the government felt threatened.

jscott 01-31-2008 11:53 AM

fucked up how fucked up us humans are

D Ghost 02-07-2008 02:18 AM
